I've never tried this, but can you make calls from the UK/Canada phone booths, or anything like that since the calling-in lines were shut down?

Not sure about the current situation, but many 'phones' in the themed areas had neat little surprises when you picked them up.
Probably the most well known one was the phone on the wall in the Emporium on Main Street in the MK.
When you picked it up, you heard a 'conversation' going on between some Main Street residents via a 'party line'.

Cast Members would often instruct Guests to pick up a phone located near them, either in a show building or outside at a kiosks saying 'it's for you..'.
When you would pick it up, Goofy or another characters voice would come on and wish you a happy birthday or another greeting.
I had this happen to me twice at EPCOT some years ago...at The American Adventure ( main entrance area ) and also outside one of the kiosks near the Fountain of Nations.

Not sure if this is still going on today...but it made for a fun little discovery and a neat surprise.

The one on the wall by the door at the rear entrance of Chapeau was still working a few weeks ago as a "party line listening" but does not make outbound calls.
