Well, we started a few years back with just the monorail playset. Then we got the Contemporary. After that, I found out about the old Dept 56 Disney Parks Heritage Village Collection. And I got a couple last year. Through some quick bidding, careful watching and off-season shopping, I was able to add a few more pieces to our village this year!

So here's our under-the-tree Disney display!

I'm so excited with how it looks. I added some trees and a few other people figures from the craft store and I want to probably try to pick up a few more generic people but I think it looks so pretty and festive.

Next on my list is the light-up Cinderella Castle in the parks ($65) and I'd love to get Tinkerbell's Treasures and the Silversmith but....being unemployed and with $10k in medical bills from my surgery, the $100+ each price tag means they'll have to stay a dream for now!

Great job MissM it looks wonderful! One of these days I will have to purchase a train or monorail set for my tree. I wonder if they have a Nightmare B 4
X-Mas themed one :drevil:

nice

I like your set up. Love the town street scene.

I had to pack up the monorail set this year in preparation for the move. Thinking in the new place of doing a table top version of the set up versus the shelf around the ceiling perimeter of the room. That way at Christmas it would be easier to transfer the monorail to second set of track around the tree.

Thanks! The whole town just makes me smile. I love the warm glow of it too.

Don't let my guy hear talk of a ceiling perimeter version!! Love wants to build like mountains and a backdrop for the tree - he's got these crazy ideas for like a Macy's window display type set-up. I'm like, honey, it's just the dinning room of our apartment!!

Amazing picture

Oh my gosh missM that is amazing! I can not believe that you thought of that! Wow I am astonished. Hope to see more pictures from you soon! Merry Christmas!:xmas::xmas:

I want one too!
You need to add the Grand Floridian and then the Poly. After that build a miniature Seven Seas Lagoon with a complete Magic Kingdom setup.
Next year you can start on Epcot and the TTC ... :)

My cats would never go for something like that under the tree. Those little people and little trees would be carried all over the house.

Your setup looks really cute. We finally bought the WDW Railroad to go around our tree this year. I couldn't decide between the monorail and the train, but I thought the train seemed more "Christmassy". What a pain it is! The slightest nudge knocks it off the track and it takes forever to get the wheels all back on. It's also so loud we can only stand to turn it on for about 10 seconds. I'm thinking maybe the monorail woulda been easier!

They made an official Grand Floridian and Poly as part of the monorail playset....but they were discontinued years before we started collecting them and now go for hundreds of dollars each on ebay. :brick: So...those probably won't make it in the collection anytime soon.

Well funny you should mention cats. When I first set it up, I had it arranged differently and my little cat, Gracie, made herself a bit of a bed in the town.

:lol::lol::lol:

In honesty, we never actually run the monorail. It's slow and loud and is way too sensitive to the slightest bump in the track. We usually run it around once or twice when we set it up, then just leave it "parked" on the line.

I used to have a train around my tree as a kid and we thought this was a good alternative version of that classic idea. :D

I want a Monorail to go under my tree too!! I dunno where to begin to get one though... Although, I think it would be cool if your husband made a custom track from wood, and made it go anywhere!! :D Did you know, from what I can see of the trains, a scale size of the Contemporary compared to the toy Monorails would be close to 2x3 feet! I think so anyways... Do you advise I get a monorail set?

Oh, how pretty, MissM! Thanks for sharing the photos.

I remember seeing those Dept 56 WDW buildings in a store when they were originally for sale, and still regret not buying them.

Thanks! I thought fellow Disney fans would appreciate it.

I don't remember the Dept 56 items but then, I graduated high school in 1995 and they were out 94-96 so, that's probably why. Didn't really look for things like that back then! I'm just glad I've been able to find as many as I have through ebay. Of course, the two really expensive ones will probably never make their way to my display, but it's still pretty nice and I think if I want some more "filler" houses, I can get other Dept 56 buildings from their other collections too.
