Osborne or Very Merry Christmas Party?

Hey All,

I'm a FL Resident, who's done both...although MVMCP more so than Osborne. I'm going up to Orlando for the day/night this Sunday and am tossing the idea of either doing MVMCP or just going to Hollywood Studios for the day to do Osborne (we have 1 day left on our 3 day pass, so we wouldn't have to pay for anything).

It's the BF's first Disney Christmas...any thoughts on what way we should head? :xmas:

I'd vote for Osborne. Definitely one of the coolest moments that Disney created.

For Christmas experiences, I'd definitely agree. The Osborne lights are the only reason I'd return to WDW at the holidays, I wasn't impressed by anything else.

But for attractions? Can't beat a night in the MK with hot chocolate galore. :slurp:

A regular day ticket cannot be used for MVMCP or other hard ticket event. Your one day could be used during regular park hours but NOT for the party.

Hmm, i love both!

If you're on a budget and don't want too much christmas- hollywood studios has enough christmas cheer to be awesome.

However- the best disney christmas is to def go to the party at mk and enjoy the hot chocolate and watch the parade on main street and it snows etc... it is sooo magical! :xmas:

Why cant you do BOTH...if your willing to spend the money for the MVMCP then hit Hollywood for the day and stay for the turning on of the lights and then head over to MK for the party.....Best of both worlds! :xmas:

As someone who just attended both, I would go with the Very Merry Christmas Party. The parade and fireworks are awesome. The lights at HS are on a loop and while cool, are not worth the entire price of admission. There's tons of other shows to go to at the MK not to mention the rides are open while the party is going on as well ... JMO though

If it were me, I would just do the Osbourne lights, and then do a tour of the resorts, looking at all of their decorations...maybe getting a hot chocolate or a treat from each hotel?
It would cost a lot less.

I can say that both were cool but I was at the MVMCP on Sunday and they were checking wristbands at a lot of different places.

I have great video of my wife and daughter at Cosmic Ray's dancing with characters and elves... really cool!

Both are great but have downsides.

MVMCP is a separately ticketed item. Tickets are $63 if you purchase them at the gate. The event itself starts at 7 PM although they usually let you in early. I've heard as early as 5 PM but have never tried getting in this early. If you go to the MVMCP, you'll be at MK for only part of the day. Not sure what you'd plan to do in the morning. I've also read several posts from people complaining that the MVMCP is much more crowded than it used to be. It seems that Disney may have increased the number of tickets it sells for the event.

Having just returned from WDW, the Osborne lights were spectatular, definitely our favorite Christmas moment during our most recent trip! Still, it only kept us interested for about an hour. Many people left after 30 minutes. Yes, the lights were awesome but how long can you stand and stare at lights?
I've been to the MK at 4:00pm twice for the party, and both times I was let in with a party ticket and nothing else. I've also heard of others doing this very same thing. 4:00pm entry for party-goers seems to be a very common thing.

As for the question at hand, I'd also go to the Studios for the day, stay for the lights, then head to the MK for the party. They're open 'til midnight so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy both.

4:00 has always been the standard entry time for MVMCP or any other hard ticketed evening event, even though they state that it starts at 7:00. The resort concierges will even advise you to go at 4:00 and get in early, so its not any kind of secret.

As to the Osborne Lights, I think they look great -- I look at them for about 6 minutes then head elsewhere...they in themselves aren't much of an "attraction" nor any reason to make a specific trip to DHS, unless you want to experience the other great things to do there...but the lights themselves?....

I can't believe someone earlier mentioned they can only take "about an hour of it, although most people leave after 30 minutes"....

Frankly, outside of a small handful of folks, I can't think if ANYONE that stays there for more than 10 or 15 minutes at the most -- although some people do wander through a couple times over the course of the evening....

MVMCP on the other hand, is a full evening of entertainment.

If you LIVE in Florida and have already done both -- then I don't think that is something to mull over at all -- if you have the extra park tickets, go to DHS and have a great time; why would you want to spend the additional money to go to MVMCP if you have already done so in the past and would be a bigger monetary outlay over and beyond the extra tickets you already have for the other parks...

As much as I like the osbourne lights, I would say go to the party since it's an all night event and has many different things to do us all the regular rides.

I would be one of those who can stay and watch the lights for hours. I saw them for the first time last Friday night and I was there for about 30-40 min and only left because we wanted to make sure we got a seat for fantasmic since we hadn't seen that either. I could go back and watch the lights night after night. I have an obsession with LEDs, what can I say!
