Osborne lights and Fantasmic. How do I schedule this?

I'm planning a group trip to Disney in November with one day spent at each park. On our Hollywood Studios day, the sun sets at 5:30 and Fantasmic starts at 7. How much time will I be able to stay at the lights before needing to rush off to Fantasmic?

How much time should I expect to spend at the lights? I've never seen them before, and I'm thinking of skipping Fantasmic, which feels like blasphemy.
It all depends on how badly you want to see Fantasmic. I would suggest 45 minutes for the lights and then the walk, aiming to arrive at Fantasmic no less than 30 minutes before it starts (assuming you've done the Fantasmic Dining Package). Reduce your viewing time at the lights if you haven't done the Dining Package

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Just a tidbit usually eventhough the park is closed after Fantasmic the lights are still on and stuff because they let people who was eating dinner later go look at them and enjoy them. You may be able to sneak back there again after Fantasmic. We after dining (not watching Fantasmic those particular nights) and park was closed was able to go enjoy the lights for about an 1 hr + past closing time and no it was not an EMH night several times. Don't know if you will want to go back and look at them after Fantasmic is done again but you might get a few extra minutes if you can sneak back there. :)

I wouldn't count on being able to get back there after Fantasmic. If the park is closed cast members will direct you towards the exit. I get uncomfortable when someone advises another to "sneak" or break the rules. It is disrespectful. None of us are perfect. I get that. But I just don't think anyone should advise someone else to "sneak". The park sets closing hours for a reason. I don't stay at work for an extra hour just for people who can't adhere to business hours and I doubt cast members like to stay either.

I am not one to tell anyone to break the rules either! Ever! I said that because they usually have the lights going on with corresponding music after closing for a while and guests including myself before have been back there a while numerous times after closing, even if we did not eat dinner because we had already been back there at closing and stayed until they ushered all of us out once the lights were finished. If they didn't want people to stay at all they would stop the music and the lights.
I also never guaranteed they could do that but just mentioned that because we have noticed the lights usually never go off/stop music right at closing. We if I remember correctly were even told by a CM that they do leave them on a little later due to the guests that were eating (including us before) etc to be able to go and enjoy them for a little while. This is not "breaking rules" if they allow you to go back there. If they don't allow them then that's one thing but if they let them like we have done then it's not "breaking the rules"!! Me using "sneak" in my wording did not mean that literally as in encouraging/condoning doing something wrong! You know how someone says "sneak a peek" same difference, doesn't always mean it's doing/encouraging something wrong or not allowed. I was using that word figuratively. Sheesh! Lol
Also I said it in case they don't get very long to view the lights before Fantasmic that they may get a few extra minutes maybe to see them. I never said they could for sure, nor do I want them to break any rules. Never hurts to try and all a CM can do is say I'm sorry you can't and usher them out.
I, in my 7 years on this board have never condoned or encouraged breaking any rules in any posts ever so I was not this time either.:oops:

I apologize if I misunderstood your intent. I just didn't want him to think that he could get back there after Fantasmic and then end up not seeing the lights at all. I honestly don't think you were being malicious at all. I see you being very helpful with responses on the board. I think I overreacted.

It's totally okay I know it may have looked that way! I like you can't stand to see people looking for advice or giving advice to break the rules! I'm the type of person if a store forgets to charge me for an item I will literally go back and let them know, etc. haha! Thank you for the apology and realizing my intent as I really did mean well. I have overreacted I'm sure myself before to a post. Hope you are having a wonderful day! :)

When we were there this past December we did the Fantasmic show at 7 PM and then went to go see the lights. Actually we even had a pitstop at Star Tours and Muppets on the way back. The park hours closed at 8 but we were back at the lights until 9 PM before they started ushering us out. And it was pretty light crowds back there that late too. That would be my suggestion.

Yep it's kinda an insiders hidden secret that they usually always have the lights going for about an hour give or take after closing. (Not EMH nights) At least the nights we have been. Always enjoyed it at that time as most people are gone already. :p

If you've not seen the lights before then go & see them because this is the last year that they will be there.
Having seen them on our last two trips (2012 & 2014), they are amazing & well worth seeing.
