My friend has lived there for about 7 years and lives downtown. He loves it. I think it looks like a great place to live.

Hey Skylinecar1982,

i am moving down in 2 weeks from New Hampshire. I was down there last summer seeing how i liked it. If you can last the summer months you will be fine. I will be living like 5 mins from AK which is sweet.

I have lived here for 3 years and it has its pros and cons. I come from a large city (Phila) and the crime here is just as bad. The CBS evening news quoted a couple of weeks ago in a story they did on rising crime rates - about 118% or something. Do your research and good luck.

I just moved here from Palm Beach in January and I really like it. We live about 8 minutes away from Disney so we're close enough to go to the parks pretty much whenever we want, but the area we live in is not crowded with tourists and everything around here is pretty new.

If you can stay in Seminole County (work and live), you can miss most of the traffic, tourists, and most of the crime....

However, the biggest problem with the area, finding a house... the housing market went through the roof a few years back and hasn't come back down... There are a lot of homes on the market, but the prices are still sky high (I think the median is around $230,000)....

Weather is not bad, there can be a long and annoying rainy season, but usually just heavy misting and quick showers (that appear out of now where).... in this area, most hurricanes miss us, but when they do, they are not that bad.... if you can take the keat of the summer, you should have no worries....

No you're not.

I don't think we hate the tourists just the traffic they cause. The sudden stops in the middle of the roads as they try to figure out if they need to turn etc.

I don't think I could live in Orlando......
Too far away from the ocean for some of us ......It's actually cooler to live on the East coast because we usually get an ocean breeze which keeps the temps a little cooler during the hot summers.

Once you become a resident and start raising a family in Florida, Disney becomes less important and the usual family things like school activities, music lessons, sports, fishing, surfing and beach activities, etc. begin to take up the weekends you used to go to the parks.
At first when you live here, you go to the parks with every relative and friend that comes down to visit you( really here to go to Disney-don't let them fool ya<g>); but after about 10 years you start pointing the way and telling them what not to miss. Then after about 20-30 years here, you might start spending more time in the parks after the kids are grown and out on their own. You start seeing the park through kids eyes again when you have grandkids.

Once my sons got into sports we probably went 10 years without going into a Disney park except for field trips with school. We actually tried to do vacations out of state and hit other theme parks with family members and friends up North. NOw....... I love to go even if just for a few hours at a time.

That was my biggest thing to get used to when I moved here...being an hour or more away from the nearest beach!!! I'm so used to going whenever I want, and now it has to be planned and it has to be on a weekend because of the drive.

I miss Palm Beach :(, but I do like living in Orlando...I just wish it were closer to the ocean!

Personally, I'd rather live on the coast of FL and have a 1 1/2 drive to Disney.

Just my opinion...............

I'm with you. Takes me 4 minutes to get to the Honeymoon Island State Park beach on the Gulf, and 85 minutes to get to WDW. Easy day trips, weekend trips, or even trips that last just a few hours to WDW from here.

My wife lived up in Dunedin before we got married.
The Florida coast is so beautiful. Orlando has heat, bugs and a big mouse.

My back yard was litterally on the Gulf Of Mexico.Cape Coral was and I STRESS the word WAS a nice place to live. A bunch of crime and other undesireables were coming from the east coast. When I moved there from Ft lauderdale there were zero murders with the biggest problems being bored teens maybe breaking into a car or something. When I moved ,there were about 15 murders per year in the cape with lots of Gangs in the schools.

The kicker was my house getting blasted 2 times by 2 Hurricanes and my insurance going through the roof.

I know Orlando has its problems but I still love OTOWN and if I ever make it back to Fl thats where I will move back too.Im would like Celebration,Baldwin Park,Avalon Park,Reunion, or Independence.
