There is a $1.50 public bus from the heart of downtown Orlando to the TTC and back, every half hour during the day. It's odd to think that anyone could get on that bus so easily and just be right near the Magic Kingdom, walking distance from the Polynesian.

Just recently there was a robbery at the BouTIKI store in the Great Ceremonial House! - 2 guys overpowered a castmember and cleaned out one of the registers.(I learned this from one of the other cast members that works there.)

Speaking from personal experience you are not safe from crime while within WDW either. In May of 2004, our car was broken into in the Epcot parking lot. My wallet was locked in a lock box inside. They got into my wallet and stole what cash I had but left everything else. We thought it was just a lesson learned until two weeks after we returned home. We got calls from our credit card companies saying there were all these huge charges on our cards in Florida that day. Obviously we were not responsible for the charges. Long story short, the criminals had swiped the cards that were in my wallet that day into a machine they had and then left the cards in my wallet so we thought we were ok. They then made new cards with our numbers and managed to steal over $5000 from several checking accounts. We got all of the money back except the cash. It was a good wake up call and made us realize we need to be much more careful even in WDW.

I am from Birmingham and we were number 6. I hate that every year we are in the top ten, but every city has it's good and bad parts. Unfortunately crime can happen anywhere. You just have to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. I have never felt unsafe in Orlando, but again, I try to be cautious of my surroundings, as best I can.

Washington DC local media has been making a huge stink about how so many crimes occurred during the spring/early summer and demanded that the politicians do something about it... so they setup up earlier curfews, more OT cops... yet we are only 19th on the list from this supposed crime spree we experienced.

From the media reactions... it seemed like we would be number 1
