Yeah except that dog won’t hunt with the donor class, and you need them to fund campaign
Money only goes so far, and fighting "woke Disney" is where the GOP base is at. Not to mention Florida has extensive grassroots groups that fundraise, and the Democratic Party is very weak in the state, for a lot of local elections, you don't need that much money, especially when the opponent is almost nonexistent.

For anybody who thinks this is a major L for DeSantis or the Florida GOP... you don't understand how divided our politics are. They're going to spin this as Disney is abandoned Floridians... and then they'll bang on their chest and proclaim "no woke companies want to come here, because they know Florida is where 'woke comes to die'!"
True but it could’ve just as easily been spun as “business is leaving California and coming to the free state of blah blah blah.” He likes the play that game, too, when it suits the narrative.

Given his treatment of Disney and his comment the other day encouraging prospective college students to seek out Berkeley over his in-state universities, have to wonder if DeSantis is a double agent working for a California marketing bureau.

Dems are weak, but they just won the mayorship of Jacksonville against the governor-endorsed candidate in a BIG upset…

No doubt that was an upset, but if you look at the numbers... its because Republicans didn't show up on election day after a brutal primary fight. Winning is winning, but if you can only win when the other side doesn't show up, that's not promising. Florida is clearly a red state now, which is crazy because it use to be looked at as the ultimate swing state.

Statement from Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

“It is unfortunate that Disney will not be moving forward with construction of the Lake Nona campus. However, these are the consequences when there isn’t an inclusive and collaborative work environment between the state of Florida and the business community. We will continue to work closely with our valued partners at Disney.”

Between this and Galactic Starcruiser permanently closing, Chapek is being unpersoned from Disney history.
Oh man. Hadn't heard that starcruiser news. Huge bummer as it was a tremendous experience. I hope they find a way to integrate that building with SWGE

I am Shocked. Shocked. Shocked that a politician would dishonestly politicize this.

The article said that 200 people had already made the move. I wasn't aware that many (which isn't a lot of people for a corporation like Disney) had already made the switch.
Chairman Josh advised "options " will be discussed with the 200 cast already relocated from CA to FL . That's doesn't sound so rosy.

Here's the response from the office of the Governor on the cancellation of the Lake Nona project.

I've heard that construction contracts had already been awarded to GCs when Disney cancelled the project. Anyone know is that's 100% confirmed?
