It was the ticketing division. The department I was in built the systems that scanned tickets and generated attendance reports for our clients. It was an awesome job and I miss it a lot.
Yeah, but how many such systems do you need when you're not letting fans into the stands?

I'm guessing there are other uses for your talents.

None of this matters...

Eventually, the supreme court (if it even bothers to get that far) will overturn the Reedy Creek thing and everything will move forward. But Disney can't move forward until the court rules, because they have to show harm... and Desantis could say... "how were you harmed, you are still moving 1000's of new jobs to Florida".

It's a stretch... but since he has no other defense to a HIGHLY ILLEGAL revenge law, in clear violation of the first amendment... he has to have something to say.

I would say that I took a step down in the scope of my talents but an upgrade in pay. My background was IT field services and I was promoted to that division for a few years until covid. The systems did more than just let people into the gates though. They were tied into point of sale systems, as well as give aways. So your ticket to the game could be scanned multiple times for different uses like secondary access like suites or club levels, parking, hot dog/drink promos, or bobble heads! We did more than just ball parks too. We did festivals, fairs, theaters and a ton of minor league games.

I don’t see how this could be political. DeSantis doesn’t care about 2000 jobs. That’s a drop in the bucket. What’s probably going to happen is that the state will appoint more positions at the top of RCID instead of Disney. I know because I’ve talked in person to DeSantis about it. It’s not going to be a massive change from what’s going on right now and it’s more about a message. Killing the chicken to scare the monkeys type of thing. The delay in the move is most likely due to construction delays. Right now, I have a project being built that is being severely delayed by a near inability to find joists and a general lack of cold steel availability. The current supply situation is a total disaster.

Directly? Probably not. Indirectly?

In the last year, I've talked to 8 different acquaintances at WDI that were asked to move to Florida. 2 said yes and have already moved. Of the 6 that said no, 4 of them are still employed at WDI "waiting" for their roles to move. The number of people asked, who said yes to moving, is pretty low (25%), and certainly you can assume politics played some part in that.

I also don't think Disney was wanting to, or prepared to, shed over 70% of their WDI base due to this move. Not only is that a huge number of people and knowledge to lose in California, that is an daunting ask to replace from the talent pool in Florida.

By announcing that they are delaying the move publicly, as they have, they can now try to convince people in California to stay in their roles a little longer, delay the exodus that has already started, and maybe give them more time to find talent and people in Florida that to date, they haven't been able to find. It probably won't work because the damage has already been done.

It wouldn't be surprising at all if this just ends up fading out of the news, and Imagineers are allowed to stay past their "move date."

So you’re accusing WDWMAGIC of that?

“Disney will delay its move to a new campus in Lake Nona until 2026 amid the company's battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis”

"Amid" doesn't mean "because of."
@wdwmagic has always taken an objective approach to covering the now omnipresent political issues surrounding TWDC. Very much unlike a lot of media that does seem to do more commentary than actual news.

To ignore the fact that this happened “amid” the current political environment would be just as irresponsible as saying this happened because of the current political environment. Unfortunately a lot of media decided to do the latter.

But you’re right @wdwmagic is the worst far left right wing conservative liberal Disney World fan site admin ever!

Driving down it, anecdotal evidence would back this up with what can be seen in terms of apartments/condos.

Also of note is that except in the dead of night, it's impossible to traverse the section of 1-4 between Tampa and downtown Orlando without multiple traffic delays resulting in complete stops, usually with no sign of accident or other related cause once passed... Though certain areas like the exit/on-ramps for Hanes City/Davenport just a little southwest of Disney are ALWAYS one of the choke points.

Can also confirm that there have been major construction booms in that once rural area (Davenport in particular) over the last decade+ of apartments/condos that are still ongoing.
I always hear about the brutal traffic on I-4, but the handful of times I've driven on it, it has always moved smoothly. I keep waiting for one of those massive traffic jams that are referenced.

My wife and I are driving down (from PA) with my parents this weekend. Hopefully this isn't the time we get stopped!

While I trust that Steve's intentions are good, I do think that media outlets who cover situations like this by putting things like "amid the feud with DeSantis," when the company has already denied any correlation, make an editorial claim to the reader that is not based in the reality of the situation.

It suggests that there is a connection between to things, despite, in this situation, there being none. This especially becomes a problem when 59% of all URLs mentioned on sites like Twitter are not clicked on at all. If the headline is all someone reads (because we're a society full of lazybones), it can leave them with an impression which is not based in the reality of the situation. This false impression is then amplified when they share it on their social media.

Champions gate and the area around Disney are both very dense for most of the day. I think you have been lucky!

Would there be any causality implied if Steve had written "...amid hurricane season..."?
