Anyone know how reliable Jim Shull is? He posted on twitter yesterday saying that Disney is going to pull back on new projects due to the economy. If Disney is also delaying/cancelling this capitol project are we looking at our first signs of the mouse going into recession mode? We saw this same playbook back in 2008 and 2020, no new construction and anything not half built halted or cancelled outright.

This is a delay for financial reasons not a cancellation. Disney is very much still wedded to the tax breaks that this move will provide.

That’s why I think people need to tailor their expectations for D23. I wouldn’t expect any new projects for the US parks.

Oh I agree I do not think Disney has any intention of stopping this train. I only mentioned cancelling because it would not be the first time they delay something then ultimately cancel. Also to say that if it is cancelled its not because they suddenly have morals or care about the creative talent they already have in CA, its because their projections on the economy over the next few months/years are much worse than they are letting on.

He's legit. Former Imagineer.

Expect a lot of "pausing" of things if the Mouse is really starting to prepare for a recession.

Well, I never had any expectations for D23 to begin with because I'm jaded and don't think D23 is the be-all-end-all many believe it to be. ;) The wild and outlandish expectations some have for this event ... 🤦‍♂️

I legit thought about working for Universal as they have postings and need key audio visual professionals to build and maintain equipment in the third park and expansions. I checked the house prices and would not at all be comfortable even making a lateral move given the political climate in Florida. Unless things have changed I expect them to want a pay cut too. I just cant imagine universal paying 80k+ at a minimum given what I have read about salaries down there to attract people. I think they probably have leverage to pull from a lot of areas where tech workers have no idea what a real salary is more than most places and also are regressive places to live already. I share your disappointment.

I make pretty good money granted I am not salary however I love Florida. Moved from up north and screw those places. Sure I could make more back north but the quality of life I get here makes up for it.

I think people forget that not everyone is x political affiliation. Country isn’t all conservatives or all liberals.

As an aside I would love working for universal or disney but I think at the pay I would want they would want at least an engineering degree.

What have they announced that they could possibly pause? Nothing is coming.

True. The only thing I can think of that could be paused is the ludicrous Splash retheme. They aren't going to pause Tron (right?). They could pause Moana, I guess, but they can't leave it in the current state due to the consequences of exposure.

Until December 2020, Jim was head of Creative at WDI. I'm *sure* he still has contacts in the building. I know him personally and can vouch for him.

Is WDI really in a place where they know "the plan" so to speak. Other than WDI being a shell of its former self, it seems like the M.O. of leadership has been to just make surprise decisions on things with little to no consultation with subordinate divisions/groups like WDI.

Ever project needs an approved budget, if basically nothing is getting approved or getting guidance to not expect approvals for anything of substance, etc then they would see indications of this

Likely not the details but they would be able to read the room/the tea leaves earlier than others, would be my guess
