Original Countdown to Extinction

I didn't first ride (what was already at that time) Dinosaur until 2008. Can someone explain what the 'laser effects' I've heard mentioned were? If you remember it well, list any other significant differences the ride had before the change. Also, did the pterodactyl actually swoop down at some point? And as for the little dinosaurs right after the pterodactyl, has that always looked the way it does now? I've never understood the exact effect they're going for with the light going from one figure to the next. Oh and was it at one point a different kind of dinosaur you were bringing back with you? Thanks.

I highly suggest Martin's video, but I'll sum up a few things:

-There were "laser portals" at the start and end of the ride. The first was at the top of the first time tunnel, and looked like a green laser box hanging in mid-air. As you passed through the box you heard the glass-crashing sound, the stars sparkled, and you then saw the forest.
There were two other laser portals, one near the iguanodon and one after it before the other time tunnel, though I honestly only ever remember the one by the iguanodon.

I've never seen the sparks operating in the first time tunnel.

There was a laser "net" on the iguanodon that I don't ever remember seeing in operation.

The compys actually moved over the path of the ride vehicles. They were either on thin rods or chains/cables. As they jumped over, they were each lit by narrows shafts of blacklight, making it look like they were jumping from the bushes on one side to bushes on the other.

The pteradactyl apparently moved toward you at one point, but I never remember it moving (my first ride was about 8 months after the park opened).

There's a lighting effect of a "scanner" (not sure if it was laser or just a lighting effect) on the curve from Load toward the time tunnel. It would rotate all the time, and then stop as you passed under and "scan" the vehicle. This is one that's been on-again/off-again over the years.

Thanks all for the responses! So marni, from your last reply I assume you're the creator of martinsvids? Well done! I liked the whole explanation before the ride video. You really put in a lot of research! It's a shame they never got the dino peppers ghost working. That could've been really cool.
I know people complain about how the ride has been lessened over the years, even recently being made brighter and quieter, despite all of this I still love Dinosaur! We're not gonna make it!!!

Just change it to Indy.... The theming could work with some tweaking after all Indy IS an archeologist!

That'd have much more pull for the park/area!

Ooohh Touche! I would only accept an Indy conversion if they Re-Imagine Disney's Animal Kingdom to Disney's Adventure Kingdom..Then we have a deal.

Ha ha, personally I think that concept sounds great.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something but I'm not a huge fan of animal kingdom!
