I don't really see the excitement on this - it just seems they are selling us more. How about spending some money on real improvements, instead of merchandise to sell to the super fans? Now I see why some Imagineers on Twitter have been constantly hyping this in recent weeks.

Yeah, it's nostalgia pandering, but it's nice to see WDW acknowledge its old history and bring back something unrelated to a movie of some kind.

I guess they couldn't make or get the orange bird character costume for this little shindig though

Because for some of us it is something that was special to us as children. I was born just outside of The Orange Bird being at WDW but I ended up with a lot of his stuff through finding it at Goodwill. I didn't even know he was a Disney product and my whole life I remember having a little orange bird bank head and an orange bird sippy cup. Seeing all this come back gives me the chance to have that magical experience with a character I have loved my entire life.

To you it may be them spending money on something that doesn't matter and is just for "super fans" but for some of us seeing the Orange Bird at the Sunshine Terrace and getting a drink in a Orange Bird sippy cup is about much more. I for one don't believe I could even be considered a supper fan in this case because I always just assumed he was part of the Florida Citrus Company and owned by them not Disney.

No matter how hard some negative people on this board will try to spin it, this is nothing but a positive! Good job Disney!

I like little stuff like bringing back the citrus swirl. That makes me really happy. I think what he's saying is that in the scheme of things, with the number of people this actually matters to, that this shouldn't be that big of a deal. This is a nice thing.

And it's very cool to have my citrus swirl back :)

It's the little things. We all like Disney parks over Six Flags and others because Disney does the little things that add to the story, the texture, and the depth of the parks better than anybody else. Here is a little thing (a character that wasn't necessary at all, but was nonetheless created and used) that was gone and is now coming back. It's good.

It doesn't replace the big things that we all wish Disney was doing more of, but it is a good (if small) thing nonetheless.

Those little things are good when they are genuine. This however, seems to have been conjured up simply to sell things to the "super fans". REAL details do not have to be rammed down people throats like this is.

Absolutely agreed.

Yeah they should have built an e-ticket instead.

Still, the fact that this is considered a big deal says a lot.

It's a nice little niche thing, in reality.

And that's sort of the problem. So many little things have been chipped away, we get excited when one is brought back. Items of little importance get over inflated and the response is over-measured.

That said, I am a weak Disney fanboy and I think I have found my next pair of Mouseketeer Ears...

Bingo.

A new attraction is a big deal.

A new fireworks show is a big deal.

A 12-month refurb of a classic E-ticket is a big deal.

I know big deals, and Senator, this is no big deal.

Wow they even got Richard Sherman to rerecord two of the Orange Bird songs. But Disney will say they just tossed all this together to sell shirts, so they can't win.

Exactly. There's a reason why retro WDW merch is so popular, it's very obvious why... And Disney is bascially exploiting it by churning it out like they have been, rather than addressing why so many people go batty over anything that reminds them of a certain time of WDW that no longer exists... As opposed to now.

That's why it rubs people the wrong way. It's almost like a cruel joke, but none the less nostalgic and that means a lot to people.

The Sunshine Tree Terrace continues to receive love!

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...turns-to-adventureland-at-magic-kingdom-park/

I've compiled an article with links to a lot of sources discussing the Orange Bird (Progress City USA, ImagineeringDisney.com, etc) along with my reaction. All of this should sum up why this is a "big deal" and not just pandering to increase merchandise sales: http://www.disneytouristblog.com/orange-bird-returns-to-walt-disney-world/

UPDATE: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...-new-merchandise-at-walt-disney-world-resort/

I am a believer of the little things. If the little things are treated well, the chance of the big things going well increases exponentially.

How about SYMBOLICALLY a big deal?
Can you go for that?

Yeah. This is something that .001 percent of people care about.

But--do a bunch of this--and it will be noticed, it will affect the TEXTURE of the parks.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Celebrate that step.

So the "Disney Details" are not a big deal? Walt Disney World's history is not a big deal?

I guess I strongly disagree with you.

Not everything is going to be a new E-Ticket or new land. Disney could have released some new merchandise and called it a day. Instead, they've spent some time restoring Sunshine Tree Terrace (not just the Orange Bird, either) and have paid homage to something distinctly "Walt Disney World."

If seeing these positive changes and increase in details isn't important, I'm not sure I understand what is important. We make such a big deal about "Declining by Degrees," yet we refuse to acknowledge "Improving by Degrees."

Disney is really in a no-win position with so many in the fan community.

Truly, the jaded individuals are just as bad (and their own worst enemy) as the "pixie dust snorters."

If they bring back the character, would the Orange Bird allowed to be "mobbed" or will it be a "meet and greet" setting?
