For African-Americans, the equivalent would be selling KKK sippy cups and t-shirts that say "back of the bus".

The Orange Bird is a DISNEY character. None of the press surrounding the Orange Bird revival has mentioned the Anita Bryant connection. Why should Disney go looking for trouble by acknowledging something nobody seems to care about?

Regardless of where you stand on this issue, there is a time and place for activism. The revival of an otherwise apolitical, uncontroversial cartoon character?...That's not it.

teriofterror has a good heart why cant we leave it at that folks
There are a lot of good people here. Just because she pushes some political cause in a forum where it is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand doesn't mean she cares anymore than anyone else.

I'm sorry but it isn't a poor analogy. If Anita Bryant had her way, gays would have absolutely no rights at all.

Edited to add: You do realize that there was a nationwide boycott of Florida orange juice that took place during that time because of Ms. Bryant, correct?

The white hood is a symbol of prejudice meant to intimidate a specific group of people.

The Orange Bird, as far as I can tell, was not designed with a similar intent of prejudice in mind. Or was he? :drevil:

That's at least one reason why it's a poor analogy.
