I have never stayed in the Contemporary before, but will be this weekend.

I've heard many negative things how the resort rooms are 'falling apart' and just problems with the general upkeep.

The view from the monorail of the wing portions lends some credence to this.

So, for those of you who have stayed at the Contemporary recently, care to share any opinions good/bad/indifferent?

Thanks :xmas:

The wings smell a little dank in the hallways and maybe a little painting wouldn't hurt. The rooms are nice and are nice, the bathrooms are pretty spacious and have marble counters. The decor is rather....Contemporary. They are some of the nicest rooms on property and are fairly large. I believe the tower rooms are a little bigger. It is my favorite resort by far and I've stayed at most of them, many times. The smell of the lobby is Disney world to me.

I just spend seven nights there for Thanksgiving week, 10th floor Bay Lake side. The problems I had with my room were: the tissue holder container in the main bath area kept falling down onto the vanity (too loose), one socket cover plate was loose (didn't use anyway), and the valet/luggage button on the phone kept giving me a busy signal so I had to call the front desk to get connected to valet services to get my car when I needed it. Despite these very minor problems, we loved our stay and I would definately stay again. I choose the Contemporary because I am a single mom with 3 kids and loved the convenience it offers (this was my 3rd stay here). I have stayed at the Poly several times and GF once. The drawback for the Poly for me is the walking distance from some of the longhouses, and as beautiful as the GF is, its just a bit too ritzy for my liking. Although the Contemporary may lack the atmosphere of her 2 sister hotels, she has the convenience of leaving your room and being at the monorail within 1-2 minutes (and getting off the monorail after a long day at the MK and being in your room in 1-2 minutes). Just loved that!!!! Not to mention the very best character dining available is at Chef Mickey's, which we ate at several times:) . I also like the shops and the variety of dining available as well. Sooooo, I would stay again in a heartbeat. Hope you have a great time!

I stay at the Contemp whenever I can get a chance, and absoutely love it. Service has been excellent, and I have never stayed in a room in disrepair.

I stayed there 2 years ago and loved it. We stayed 12th floor concierge, 7 seas lagoon side. The view was amazing and we loved the room. I don't remember any problems with the room, but it has been a little while since our stay. If there was anything, it definitely wasn't major because we didn't notice anything (at least not worth remembering). Plus, the Grand Canyon Concourse is awesome. The Contemporary is probably my favorite resort and I still get excited when the monorail goes through it, even after all my visits. I would definitely stay there again.

Be sure to let us know your take on it! It's been 7 years since I've stayed there; but it's very sentimental for me. The Contemporary was the first place 'on the grounds' that I stayed in (1981).

We stayed at the Contemporary in July of this year, in a Tower room. We had a great room with castle view and found no signs of disrepair. I'm sure I've seen it on these forums before, I believe the Contemporary has the largest "standard" rooms on property (non-suite). They are certainly larger than the GF rooms and we were in the Concierge building in 2003. In fact, the largest standard room of any hotel anywhere that I've stayed was in the Contemporary, a wing room, on the first floor at the corner of the building. The room had a walkout to the volleyball court and a window overlooking Bay Lake. My cousins were in this room this past July when we were staying in the Tower.

I just stayed there the first week of November on the first floor in the North Wing. We had a problem with a leak coming from the ceiling right by the doorway to the bathroom. It was in the morning as we were getting ready, and they did fix it while we were gone during the day. They also gave us a 1/2 night credit, after my husband loudly complained to the manager.

Overall, I think the hotel really needs some updating. Our room was clean, and other than the leak, everything was in good order. But there is a general shabiness to the whole place. This was our first time staying on-site, and I was a little disappointed with the place, especially in regards to how expensive it is.

On the pro side, the staff was very efficient and friendly, and of course nothing beats being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom from your hotel.

I have stayed at the Contemporary many times over the years - in both the Wings and the Tower (last time was early this year). ALL of the rooms were and are great - spacious, clean, quiet and Disney-like. I have never encountered a maintenance or cleanliness issue.

Concourse Steakhouse is a hidden gem - great food and convenient location. Also can't beat the California Grill.

In summary, book it and enjoy it!

I've stayed in the Contemporary tower, room 4741, the past two Mays. Absolutely amazing room with a breathtaking view. The rooms are huge, colourful, and comfortable.

We stayed in the North Garden Wing last November, our room was great. Lots of room to move around even with two Queen beds and a daybed. My only complaint was that it was quite a trek to the elevators, but the payoff was a fantastic view of the water from our sliding window. We loved the convenience of walking to MK. I would definitely stay there again. No coffemaker in the room though - we were able to call housekeeping and they brought us one.

It's been several years, but...

... we've stayed in the Contemporary several times. The wing rooms are a lot cheaper than the tower, and if you can get one in the just inside the north wing (first dozen or so rooms inside the entrance) with a parking lot view, they turn out to be a huge value. You might be looking at the parking lot most of the time, but the magic kingdom firworks go off right over space mountain from that vantage point, and you're close enough to have a great view.

I would say that your opinion depends on your prior hotel stays. Here's why: for those that have stayed at the GF and Boardwalk - you may be a little disappointed as the rooms are slightly more dated. But for those of us that have stayed in the Values, and moderates - we appreciate a good room when we see one. the Contemporary's rooms are the largest on the disney property for standard rooms - we stayed in a South Garden wing and were nothing but pleased - though it's a bit of a walk you won't be disappointed with the views. Make sure to make dining arrangements at the California Grill as it is by far the best. Plan on waiting a good bit for the busses as we have yet to catch a bus to Ak or MGM within 20 minutes. But all in all I say it's a wonderful hotel! Enjoy your stay!

I have stayed at the Contemporary three times (twice in the Tower and once in the garden wing). DO NOT STAY IN THE GARDEN WING. There is no view. Our room was located way way at the end and had to walk a mile just to go to breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Not fun with a small child. The only positive thing is that the laundry room is in the garden wing area. The Tower rooms are nice and large, especially the bathroom. Ask for a view of the Magic Kingdom on a high floor. It is a little outdated, but maybe someday they will update the whole thing. Have fun otherwise. The only other place we stayed was the Beach Club which was nice, but it doesn't pay to have a room overlooking the lake.
