Opening WDW with Social Distancing

I'm sure the Disney shareholders would not approve that jingle.
I believe that Disney, as a business, can and should expect their guests to undertake a certain amount of inconvenience as well as give-and-take to everyone's mutual benefit. I've had an AP for over a decade and many things about a Disney day "just come with the territory". Going forward, that territory will look very different, but if you have a sense of adventure and a sense of humor in your pack, you will still have an enjoyable day. So, yes, compromise will be your constant companion (even if it has to stay 6ft away).

If you can't stand the heat, stay off the street.

Seriously, the amount of moaning people make out of the inconvenience of not spread a plague is astounding.

You get used to masks. Just like you get used to wearing shirts and shorts in ninety degree weather.
And you don't have to wear latex or rubber gloves for protection... viruses aren't snakes -- they don't crawl around looking for ways to get into your body. All you need is a barrier between you and the surfaces you touch.

Now, if you're wearing cotton gloves and they get soaked in a puddle of snot, then all bets are off.

Walk with a mask in the middle of Main Street / M K in the middle of July , 100 degrees and that mask will be soaked by lunchtime.

yet... people still do it in the 100 degree days of Taiwan and other hot Asian locations.
So we know for a fact it’s entirely practical... we know whole societies that do it.

I might as well say you could never possibly build a theme park in the Orlando swamps

Sanitizing hands before and after every ride......
Our hands will look like ground beef by the time HEA occurs.
This was our family’s practice before this virus started. And frequent hand washing as constant use of hand sanitizer just builds up a disgusting film. I worked in a hospital where you had to “gel in/gel out” of every patient room—on top of washing hands whenever we removed our gloves. And frequently was in OR rooms that were 95 degrees (masks do NOT hold up well if you are sweating a lot). To combat the “hamburger” effect of frequent sanitizer, lots of unscented lotion (scented has extra alcohol that’s drying)!

The scientific data conclusively demonstrates that even imperfect use of masks reduces the R0.

Quite simply— it would be completely reckless to operate the parks unless you can operate at R0 under 1.0.

So if Disney parks normal operation brings a R0 of 2.5....
And temperature checks reduce it to 2.2..
And eliminating parades and shows reduce it to 1.9
And limiting attendance reduce it to 1.6...
And extra sanitizing procedures reduce it to 1.4..
And extra hand washing brings it down to 1.1
And masks bring it down to 0.9....
Didnt realize you had conducted peer reviewed studies to present this nonsense as concrete facts! Wow problem solved. Mask use is actually still a “best guess” and changes as information becomes available. Media tends to run the “best guess” or “educated” opinion as hard fact. It’s not - especially as you dig into the “studies” the journalist is presenting. A “study” involving 19 people is hardly conclusive. Scientists still aren’t sure what the actual R0 factor for CV19 is.
oh btw flu and other viruses aren’t ever at R0, or even R1. So is it reckless to open anything ever again as someone somewhere might possible get sick?

I didn’t conduct any peer reviewed studies, but I did read them:

The R0 is actually constantly changing as different mitigation actions are taken. It’s different in different locations, etc. it isn’t a fixed number.

There is no such thing as an R1... no idea what you’re talking about.
The R0 for seasonal flu is is about 1.3.

But season flu is between five times and twenty times less deadly than Coronavirus.

If seasonal flu was as deadly as Coronavirus, with a R0 of 1.3.. we’d have to go on lock down for seasonal flu. But since it’s far less deadly, we function with an R0 of 1.3. (If it was as deadly as coronavirus, without mitigation, there would be between 200,000-600,000 deaths per year from seasonal flu in the US).
So yeah... if seasonal flu was killing 200,000-600,000 Americans per year... we would probably be wearing masks to protect from it.

I hear you.
My wife is an RN at our local hospital.
Her hands have taken an extra beating.
Not to mention the serious lack of PPE. It's not very nice.
WDW can not do much once they re-open.

Nope. I am not going to a theme park with the ridiculous social distancing rules. Here is an idea, if you don't feel safe to go out, then don't go out. Let the rest of us do it. If you thought the line for Splash Mountain seems long then try standing 6 feet apart from the next person. It'll go as far as Pirates of the Caribbean.

They have to come up with a plan to re-open the parks. The warmer weather is coming. For those that want to stay home then stay home!

They will reopen. In July or most likely in August.

if they enforce social distancing like they enforce everything else you have nothing to worry about. It will be business as usual.
