WALT DISNEY STUDIOS PARK (March 16, 2002 - 9 am) - The Walt Disney Studios Park, the new theme park at Disneyland Resort Paris in Marne-La-Vallée, opened its doors to the world this morning at 9 am. The inauguration was themed as the filming of a musical. Media, celebrities and families from all over Europe witnessed the ceremony, which took place in front of the giant curtain-covered studio gates.
Jay Rasulo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Euro Disney, S.A., Roy Disney, Vice Chairman of The Walt Disney Company and Chairman of Walt Disney Feature animation, and Michael D. Eisner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, presided over the ceremony, and each made a speech to commemorate the event. Michael D. Eisner said: "When we turned the first shovel of dirt back in 1989, we envisioned a place where families could visit for several days to partake of a true Disney vacation in Europe. Now, thanks to this park, plus Disneyland Park, Disney Village, our magnificent hotels and other entertainment offerings, families can now come from all over the continent to immerse themselves in a rich and deep Disney experience."
Mickey Mouse then took centre stage at the entrance to the Walt Disney Studios Park, along with 150 children. The children, who were aged from 10 to 12, came from all over Europe and represented eight different children's charity associations. With the traditional cry of "Lights, Camera… Action!", the curtain came down to reveal the main entrance to the Walt Disney Studios Park.
The first guests then proceeded to enter the theme park, including the "first families", who came from seven European countries - Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Holland, the United Kingdom and Denmark.
