I'm sorry JMarc- I'm too tired to tell if you are messing with me or not

A thread gets to the top of the page every time there is a new post. So Steve doesn't have to take care of it- looks like you and I are doing a fine job

Has there been some sort of problem as of late?

I know that when I personally report any sort of problem I don't get a response, but sounds like there are more serious troubles than mine about....

What's up?

There are always crazies out there and this as well as most other forums is only as anonymous as the users choose to make it. Anyone on here can choose to reveal as much about themselves as they choose but what they have to realize is that not the people who read what they post may not be that forthcoming with their own info. That means complete strangers that may be impossible to tag down the road may be giving unhealthy attention to what you say or post.

It is really just good web sense. Sometimes we get too cozy around here and forget that this forum is still on the public web and that not everyone who sees our posts is necessarily our friend. If you post something on the web, be prepared for it to be available for public view somewhere till the end of time because for all you know, it could be. :)

Hi Diva,

I've quoted you before and I think you thought I was yelling at you, so I just want you to know before I say anything that that isn't the case.:) It's just a reminder to everyone. There are two people who try to look over things here on the forum, Steve and myself (who both have full time jobs by the way). There are thousands of posts made everyday and hundreds and hundreds of members posting each day. So when problems arise and posts are reported we have to address the most serious issues first. Sometimes by the time we get to the smaller squabbles they've already resolved themselves. I want new members to feel welcome and for people to be friendly.

Something pretty big happened a couple of days ago to one of the members here. But I guess I shouldn't say anything, since the person hasn't said anything publicly anymore and the original thread was promptly deleted so not to scare or upset anyone.

This kinda stuff always freaks me out - though I've never been stalked by people that I've stumbled on online, it's a great reminder to be vigilant about what you reveal.

And the fact that said incident is being handled in an internal manner as to affect as few users as possible is a true testament to the dedication and sincerity of the people who run this forum.

Even still, it is important that people be careful wherever they go. We have a great community here but it is still part of the internet which is wide open and full of all types.

Unfourtuneatly I know about what has happened and to whom. but I won't say anything furthur about what happened, But I will tell you this. Whenever you do anything in todays computerized society wether it be using your Credit Card to make a purchase or go to the Emergency room for medical attention to using the web, you leave a trail of your pressence. We are all given a number to Identify us in some fasion in someones database, From getting our SS card when were born to an IP address to access the web someone can track where you have been with all that data floting around in Cyberspace, someone, somewhere, especially someone with a milicious intent can, with the proper tools and knowledge, can find out anything about anyone at any time. I get spam daily telling me that I can get information on anyone I want for a price. Thirty years ago if you were involved in a traffic stop by the police they had to call you information in to a central computer by radio to see wether you have any violations. And then there database was not compleat, Today if your stoped all they have to do is use there little mini terminal in the car and they can see if you have any federal or international wants or warrants, not just local.

Few may know that there are computer databases that are run by organizations that aren't the least bit shy about giving out information for a price to anyone, So with that in mind the least amount of info you give up about yourself the better.

Two things ....

Miss Eeyore - I'm kewl with you! :)

What in the world happened here??? I don't want or need to know any names, but I'd really like to know whats up. It's not a mere curiousity thing...I just used to have my own stalker, and I'm trying to decide how scared to be

Should I (or anyone else) be afraid??

No you shouldnt be afraid. You just have to be aware that if you post personal information online (such as photos, your real name, your address, phone number etc), there exists a possiblity that those pieces of information may be used by someone visiting either this site, or another site, to contact you. For example, by posting your name and your town, someone online could find your address details by using somehting like www.switchboard.com
If that person then wanted to make contact with you in real life, it would now be possible using that information.

If you have any questions please just ask :)

I just spent the last hour or so on switchboard.com and that site is very scary. I inputed a series of names of persons I know, and the listings that came up from the searches was interesting to say the least, and troubling to say the most. From the test searches I did I have concluded that the information is comming from Government databases like DL services, tax rolls as well as phone company directories, at least for the basic searches. I used friends that moved around a lot that had there parrents home address as there permante address and the information on ther new place of residence didn't show. And some that always changed there information, some did show. I used One in picticular because of other problems like this one ,used an alias and that didn't show on the general search. There could be a few reasons that the newer information didn't show , either the databases weren't as compleat on some as othere or the collected information was limited on the individuals I used for my test. I am just wondering what the plethora of information there is there after you purchase the details from them are?

The scariest of all was the search I performed on myself, I left a trail that was scary. I guess if your own home, use credit and drive, they got you comming and going. and most of this is a matter of public record, But not ment for the general public to access.
