Hey guys, I'm leaving for Disney World in about alittle over a week and I have to do the online checkin this friday and I was wondering if it is better to do that then to do regular checkin when I get to the resort?
Thanks!

If you are an experienced WDW guest and will know what everything in your package is without being told then do online check in. If you are not a seasoned WDW guest do the regular check in.

First, I wanted to say, welcome to the boards. But second, (and please do not take this as an attack) I have seen a ton of posts from you that are repeats of other posts by previous members and they have been answered. If you go to the top of the screen there is a Search feature. You can find every one of these answers by searching. Again, this was not an attack but just some helpful advice.

And to answer this question...

It really depends on you. I personally do not like it. I would rather speak with a CM at the desk so that they can handle any last minute requests I may have. The online check-in may appeal to those going during the busier months. You just need to figure out what works best for you.

We don't like online check-in and we are already quite used to the routine but it's part of the experience at WDW to have personal contact with the CMs of our resort, sometimes we even got free upgrades (e.g. at the Wilderness Lodge from Garden to Courtyard) because of the really nice CMs at check-in.

I just did my online check in yesterday! And have done it for every trip since it was introduced. I for one am all about getting there and getting my vacation started. I also, even with doing online check-in have recieved upgrades. Also, if you get there and are not happy your room location you can alway ask them if there is anything else available. I have done that too.

The only time I would advise against online check-in is if you were staying Club Level at one of the Deluxe Resorts.

Also I have read that once you do online check-in it's harder to switch rooms if you don't like the one you are given.

Finally if you have requests that are very important to you then it's best that you don't use online check-in.

Please read the other threads before posting -- in fact, some of the information here has already led you astray.....

We have dozens of posts on the Online system.

Do you miss being able to speak with a CM and get changes if you need them? Or is it because of crowds that you use it?
I can't speak for the OP but I do not miss the interaction. The interaction simply consists of a CM reading a script I have heard 100 times. There is also nothing preventing me from speaking to a CM to make changes when I use online check in. I use it for two reasons. First, it can save me time. It doesn't always but there have been several times when I have arrived to find the standard check in line 20 families deep and one family at the online check in line. The biggest plus that I have found is my room being ready early. Before online check in our rooms were ready prior to 3:00 pm maybe 1 out of every 20 stays. With online check in we are at about 80%.

Well stated!!! There still is interaction with the CM too when you do Online Check-in in my opinion, you are just just cutting out the speel you heard a million times like you said. I have checked in on at least 2 occasions and was not happy with my room assignment and the CMs have absolutely no issues with accomodating me.

Well stated! I agree with you 100%!!! You can do online Check in and still have CM interaction if you so choose to! I too have never had an issue doing online check-in and making changes once we arrived at the resort if I was dissatisfied with my room assignment.

I always do online check in, still interact with the CM and they still explain things I already know. I absolutely love the online check in. I love it when they tell me, just one moment while I go get your package. Music to my ears.:sohappy:

On my last trip the online check in was longer than the regular check in that they added a CM before you get to front of the line to direct you to the next available CM and gave them your package.

I did online check in last time since I figured that arriving at the hotel after midnight, after a long day of traveling, I'd just as soon get my documents and head to the room asap. After you've stayed on site a few times, you know what to expect. I'll be using it in another 3 weeks too.

My husband calls me an analog person, rather then digital. I still write letters, I keep a day planner, I make lists with paper and pencil...so for me...i'm an in person check in person. I have nothing wrong with the online system. And i'm an experienced Disney traveler. But for me, i'm still in person.

When do they assign the room?

We will be arriving June 2 early in the morning(~9am) and may not necessarily need to go to the room. I have requested a particular building. When do they assign the room when you check in online? Is it assigned when you go online or do they put the packets together the day of first thing in the morning? If so, doing online check in would get you ahead of the person checking in the normal way the day of arrival. Surely that is not the case. Because we don't need to go to our room I don't want them assigning me a room that is available because they assume we want to go to the room. Other post have stated they try to assign you to rooms that are ready. That's why most of the time with online check-in your room is ready even if it is early. I just don't want them to do that over giving me my bldg request.

Then have them note this on your reservation. Rooms are assigned at roughly the same time regardless of whether you do online or traditional check in.

So you are saying checking in early in the day does not make it more likely that you will get your room request? I always assumed that someone who checked in at 1pm was more likely to get a requested room than the person who checked in at 10pm that night.
