In 2008 my family (my wife and myself, my daughter, her husband and our two grandaughters were upgraded from two MK view standard rooms at the GF to two concierge MK views in the Main bldg. This came as a complete surprise at check in but it was the result of a nasty exchange between the AAA agent and the staff at the GF. The agent forgot to call with our preferences and when quizzed by myself on how everything went she stammered that she thought that I was going to call. I reminded her that as the agent, she or someone else from the AAA would be the only ones that could have that conversation with WDW. She called me back later and told me that one of the managers of the GF hotel would be calling me personally, and that I should demand that they meet my requests. I said goodbye and thought that A) No way was a manager of that resort going to personally call me, and B) I could pretty much kiss my preferences goodbye. I no sooner got the thought out of my mind when a gentleman called and identified himself as Mr. Odyl (I know I am spelling his name wrong and I apologize) and stated that he was the manager of the GF. He sounded very apprehensive, like he was expecting a major confrontation, but I opened with a profuse apology on behalf of an over zealous agent
who apparently did not understand the concept of requested preferences. Not only did he state that he would make sure that all measures would be taken to see that our requests were met (I told him, at that point, that I wanted no special treatment, and I wanted no one who was ahead of me to get bumped out of line and denied their personal Magical Moment because of me and my family. I only requested that
IF there were rooms, as I requested, available when we checked in that we were given consideration at that time), he also gave me his personal cell number to call if there were any travel problems. When we checked in I was told to go to another desk where I spoke to a tremendously cheerful and gracious female CM who had us wait for a concierge to take us to our rooms. She couldn't say where but being a long time member of this board, I knew what was happening. All I will say, our vacation memories will last a lifetime (my GD's still talk about that trip and they were 3 and 7 at the time.) There were other surprises given to us during that stay and I get a pain in the chest when ever I read the GF given bad reviews by members of this board, Not ever by me or mine, NEVER.
