Okay but some of these ideas are actually amazing. I would be so behind #11 and #22 #33 would be neat for an after hours event, #34 maybe not that but like that would be a great name for a Disney Dating App. Where else am I gonna find a boyfriend/girlfriend who loves Disney as much as I do. That's why so many CPs date. #38 is also amazing. I fully support #42.

And... I legit knew someone who wanted to do #25........... WHY

I actually did do #25 once - every single ride at DLR in one day (that’s Disneyland and DCA). Began at rope drop with Peter Pan, then ended around 9 with the Nemo Subs. It was incredibly exhausting.

Allow Adults to Go to the Parks in Cosplay!

gsw2938402948203492834fi-624x351.jpg

Rather simple really -- allow both children and adults to go Disneyland and co. in cosplay, without the adults being reprimanded or kicked out for wanting to fulfil their dreams and enjoy themselves; extending the ability to wear homemade outfits beyond Halloween and special events to all year long, with some restrictive rules of course to maintain a family friendly environment.

If this has already happened, please let me know! If this is the case, then my alternate idea is D23 EXPO UK!!

CHOOSE YOUR OWN STORY INTERACTIVE DARK RIDES
1579912763299.png

My proposal for a new innovative future for the parks is to finally allow guests to have a say in how the story goes in attractions, using similar technology at the end of Horizons where you choose your own ending, that way you don't just feel like a spectator in a story that you're likely supposed to be in the center in for once so now your actions have consequences, and you actually have plot relevance as a protagonist, although this is an engineering marvel and shouldn't be expected to be used in every single attraction from here on out since some stories work better with you at the sidelines like the original pirates, while some plotlines would be better off when you aren't immediately railroaded into an answer/conflict, kind of like the end of Horizons once again, and finally we have the point that the tech should be used sparingly until the parks divisions could find a way to keep the dark rides a reasonable length while not immediately destroying the budget, time restraints, and/or the available space restrictions.

The Next Big Thing

The next big thing in Disney is...

OSC dome.jpg

Climate controlled parks; most guests seem to be under the assumption that we can control the weather anyways and that we let it rain in order to sell more umbrellas, but with this new technology whole parks will be kept under domes that have man made weather.

Disney’s Universe Explorer
@Disneypugs.

As you say, this is a magnificent run-on sentence. (Welcome to the One Sentence Competition finale!) It’s also a really interesting idea, one you’re clearly passionate about. Your mobile app – if I understand it correctly – would be a revolution both inside Disney Parks and beyond. It would encourage fans to explore all Disney Parks worldwide, to see them in a new light. If this took off, it could be a short-lived fad not unlike Pokemon Go…or it could actually change Disney Parks forever.

Disney Airlines

View attachment 442955
Right now, Disney has the process set down from when you land in MCO to get to the parks and back to the airport but they haven't had their own way of getting guests to MCO (Eastern Airlines was a partnership), until now: Disney Airlines will launch with 4 planes to go to main North American hubs (New York, Toronto, Houston, Atlanta, Minneapolis) as another way for Disney to bring in parks revenue before they even get to the parks.
Disney Airlines
@AceAstro

Yes. :D

Though personally I would prefer a nationwide Disney Railroad (it’s what Walt would have wanted), there is actual merit to your airline proposal. Thirty years ago, folks would’ve pooh-poohed the Disney Cruise Line, and look at it now – it’s creating Sorcerer’s Apprentice stress attacks!

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Disney Co. has already done feasibility studies into this. An airline would extend that Disney Vacation Experience™ even further, and a larger percentage of our income would siphon into the Mouse’s bottomless maw. And it wouldn’t be too difficult to outclass most U.S.-based airlines these days…

Cosplaying Adults
@Evilgidgit

Every revolution in Imagineering strives to make the parks more interactive, immersive, and personal. This would be a GIGANTIC step in that direction! Costumed guests are a discussion which has occurred since the 1950s, since it really is a simple and low-tech concept. I believe the hurdle has been creating enforceable rules; who’s to say what costume is allowable and what isn’t? And does an ill-clad guest get sent home at the gate?

In the U.S. parks, at least, some A-hole guest would ruin this for everybody. I’ve seen costumes done (to an extent) in Japan during Halloweentime – in both Disney & Universal – so that proves it works on a small-scale. And it’s a ton of fun! We just need to make our culture more like Japan’s…right, @Voxel?

Choose Your Own Story Interactive Dark Rides
@Tux

More consequential guess involvement on rides? Awesome! This would be a great approach to new dark rides going forward. Galaxy’s Edge shows how guest choices can be done, and how those choices can spill out into the greater land. So, there’s your precedent. Realistically speaking, this probably is what we’ll be seeing from Disney in the next decade. Top points!

This would be a lot trickier to apply retroactively to older rides. You’re very smart to acknowledge that some rides, like POTC, would be hurt by this approach. You’re also smart to learn from video games and roleplaying. The vintage EPCOT framing is appreciated too. This is an incredibly strong proposal.

The next big this is --- the past; through a virtual reality simulator pavilion in Epcot, guests will be able to experience Epcot through the years as if they were actually on attractions such as Horizons, World of Motion, and all other incarnations of former attractions.

VR necromancy appeals to me. Having never seen EPCOT Center in its prime (or at all), I would love to experience what’s often called Imagineering’s greatest achievement. For those who do remember the old EPCOT, this would be a profound, bittersweet experience. Michael Eisner can stay home and suck eggs. I would enjoy seeing this tech applied to Disneyland CA and Knott’s Berry Farm as well, and I’m sure other parks would benefit too.

Is this the Next Big Thing? No, not really. You didn’t mean it to be. It’s a nostalgic look back at a single park. Cheers to your heartfelt passion for a lost moment in Disney History. A stationary VR recreation of the past might not change the future, but it will keep Disney’s foundational values fresh and relevant.

The Next Big Thing

The next big thing in Disney is...

Climate controlled parks; most guests seem to be under the assumption that we can control the weather anyways and that we let it rain in order to sell more umbrellas, but with this new technology whole parks will be kept under domes that have man made weather.
Disney Dome
@gam3rprincess

Yup, no way this idea can go haywire...

The idea of placing a whole preexisting theme park under a dome might be a little unrealistic...........Okay, it is gigantically unrealistic. But you do address a real concern - the weather sucks. One a smaller scale, we see Disney providing climate control with enclosed Epcot pavilions, lengthy indoors dark rides, theater shows, and indoors lands like Mermaid Lagoon. And doing nothing like that at all in Animal Kingdom. This is an overlooked part of Imagineering that's wise to think about.

Final challenge results!

“Disney’s Next Big Thing.” Obviously this was a pretty open-ended prompt, but not wholly aimless. Every challenge has shown the ongoing evolution of Disney Parks. And with the exception of @Outbound :p, everyone totally got the gist of this…and took their imaginations to the horizon!

While you didn’t especially answer the prompt, your proposal touched my heart.

This is a great combination of bold and realistic, very much in the spirit of the prompt.

The top medal goes to the prophecy – er, proposal – which I believe will define Disney in the 2020s.

Cheers to everyone who contributed! Let’s now go to the standings and see who won this episode…
