So, wait... Help a West Coaster out here. That's the plaque above the main entrance tunnels at Disneyland.

Is that only a Disneyland thing? Does the Magic Kingdom not have that plaque? I've never thought to look when at the Magic Kingdom or noticed it there, but the funny thing is that I like to read it every time I walk under it at Disneyland.

Is there not a plaque above the tunnels at Magic Kingdom?

The Magic Kingdom has them; they're under the tunnels but aren't as visible as the Disneyland plaques, though they aren't difficult to find.

This could be a stupid idea, but do you think that by saying "coming soon" that they'll leave that on the wall all the time and just be updating every 6 months or so as if there's always something "coming soon"? I just wouldn't put it past them. The only thing that makes me think this wouldn't be the case is that originally I know it said "Fall 2010."

The "Before picture was taken the first day WD:OMD was reopened...
And, just last Tuesday, it was THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER SEEN THIS PLAQUE, even after almost 100+ visits to the park:

Thank you! That makes sense now, as I can't imagine they would leave that detail out of the Magic Kingdom as it's such an iconic part of the Disneyland entry experience.

I will definitely have to look for them at the Magic Kingdom on my 2011 visit. They are round instead of rectangular, interestingly. Maybe that's why they aren't as noticeable?

I`ve said this before too. Agreed, M2M and CV360 were just upgrades, but the new physical attraction floorspace and ride additions between 74-5 that were built as one phased program (like FLE) knock the current works into second place. Me thinks it is an overactive or misinformed PR department trying to pull the publicity in.

You're probably right, as I can just imagine some 24 year old intern in WDW Publicity typing up that copy and having it approved by a slightly clueless manager.

FLE is not even qualified as the "largest" expansion by acreage, since it is mostly repurposing and reusing existing park facilities and territory. They aren't really bulldozing virgin land to build this, just redoing park land that had been developed originally in the 1970's and 80's with other attractions.

FLE is impressive, to be sure, but I hope someone calls them on this "largest expansion" blather. It's simply not true, and not cool of Disney to publicly state it if you know it's not true.

Maybe because the land is expanding more this time?

I mean, marketing and PR people will say anything if there's some angle they can say it's the truth IMO

EDIT: Just read TP2000's post which came up above mine...so I guess I'm wrong on the land size

It's funny, because I never noticed them until my sixth visit (this past summer) either. They are much more prominently displayed on the West Coast.

Without being too retentive, there was a swath of virgin forest that was leveled during construction (that had existed since 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea). That forest is now part of the Beauty and the Beast area.
