I thought this was super cute but didn’t want to invoke the wrath of hallmark by just sharing the picture.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday! Very sorry for the loss of your friend. I hope the WDW trip was a nice distraction.
Thank you. Many people thought we were sisters. I miss her every day.

Happy birthday Tu!! Happy to hear that you were able to

This is a great gif! Thanks!

I'm finally here! I had to make an impromptu trip to Iowa this weekend to give Logan a hug and some moral support and am just now getting caught up with everything. Happy belated birthday! I can't wait to hear about this trip!
Amy your sweet family is often on my mind. I walked behind three teen girls on the way to the Skyliner and the one in the middle was tall and lean with long blonde hair. Her resemblance to Lily was striking. I couldn’t help but think that Lily is having an even happier experience than those girls were. 💛

I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend. That must be so hard for you! I hope your grandtuvas help bring you some happiness and comfort!

(not to derail the TR, but @TheMouseFan I'm so happy to see you!! I'm still praying for your family!)

Let the tripping commence! Well...not tripping, but reporting on tripping? There's just no way to say it without it sounding weird.

Day 1 - Wednesday, February 8

Woody’s desire was to keep our trip a complete surprise until the night before our departure, merely telling me to pack a bag for 4 days. Then he remembered park reservations, a wrinkle in a spontaneous vacation. Since I’m the usual trip planner he feared his selections might be “wrong”, and it would be best to leave park reservations to me. Additionally he knew that I like to have things settled at home before going away. (He had already secured Em for cat duty.)

The resort was booked Sunday and he revealed my surprise Sunday night. Of course I immediately booked park passes! (Gosh, I am so ready for park passes for resort guests to go away!! Although I hate the 2 pm park hopping restriction more. We were trapped by it a couple times last week.)

I managed to pack and get all my ducks in a row in the two days that followed. Woody’s command had been, “no stress!” and I even surprised myself with a lack of pre-trip panic.

We departed at dawn and managed to escape rush hour traffic. We breakfasted at our customary spot.

We noticed a tour bus parked adjacent to the restaurant and were very glad we’d mobile ordered. The lobby was crazy! This CFA location has the fluffiest biscuits, though they tend not to hold fillings very well.

I drove the next several hours so that Woody could participate in a conference call. It was the only work he’d do until we returned home. After a quick pit stop, Woody drove the final leg of the journey.

This enabled me to take the “We’re Here!” picture.

My last stay at Pop was in February 2020, shortly before the world shut down. I think I’ve stayed here around a dozen times over the years, and the only decade building I’ve missed is the 60s….

….which happens to be the decade in which I was born.

We arrived a little after 2 pm. I purposely did not check in online, hoping that if our pre-assigned room wasn’t ready we could request one that was. There was no line at the Front Desk and a chipper Cast Member greeted us. When she learned I was celebrating my birthday the first thing she did was make me a Birthday Button, which I thought was very sweet. I don’t know if we received our original room or not, but when were told our room’s location it was in a preferred building (our reservation was for standard.)

It happened to be in new territory for me.

Yes, I am a Flower Child!

And yes, my childhood bedroom was adorned with yellow and orange floral wallpaper!

Our first floor room was in this wing below.

I did not take any interior room photos. :jawdrop: My friend @Nunu, who appreciates my room pics, just stayed at Pop last month and knows what the rooms look like!

However most of you know I am big on room views, and ours did not disappoint.

The room was very close to the Skyliner and just as close to the main building and buses (hence the “preferred” designation.) I had decided to take advantage of the Skyliner on arrival day and booked our park passes for Epcot. I figured it would give Woody an opportunity to ride Guardians of the Galaxy.

I intended to try for a Boarding Group at 7 am. I’d even mentioned it to Em. She’s amazing at scoring BGs.

It wasn’t until I received a text from her at 7:01 am that I realized I’d forgotten to try for a BG.

Good news - Em hadn’t forgotten. Bad news - A co-worker had stopped by her desk just before 7 and Em was unable to log into MDE. She felt bad and apologized. I said, “No worries, we are going with the flow!”

First of many Skyliner rides. Only once did we have to share a gondola.

Made it to the Caribbean Beach transfer station at 3:35 pm.

I knew that we had a second opportunity to secure a spot in the Guardians virtual queue but we had to tap into Epcot first. And that window had opened at 1 pm - there was a very good chance no BGs would be left three hours later.

It didn’t stop me from trying, though.

I sent the screenshot to Em hoping to alleviate any leftover guilt she may have been feeling. She was very excited for us.

Woody and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast so first on the agenda was food! We veered right after entering the International Gateway. I had a destination in mind. Though there were plenty of FARTS food booths, they’re just not our thing. We did visit all the art booths, however.

Notice the Mirabel canvas behind the sign board? When Woody saw it he proclaimed, “That reminds me of Tuvaleen! Always carefree and happy!”

Mirabel happens to be Tuvaleen’s favorite Disney character. She also has a birthday coming up in the spring. We purchased the print (the canvas was pricey) and will have it framed as a gift for her.

Sad I missed you, and Mr Woody by 8 days!, but it makes me very happy that you celebrated your birthday at our happy place! 😊

Thank you for always remembering how much I enjoy your room pics! ❤️

Could it be possible that we stayed in the same room? I too, was in the 60s, Building 5 and also on a first floor!, This was my view from inside the room:

Another close call!
We couldn’t see the bridge from our room so we must have been further down.

The flowers on the building look alot like the ones that were on my blue corduroy flaired (not quite bell bottom) pants when I was a child. I HATED those pants (hand-me-downs from older sisters). Then when my DD was about 3 I saw a very similar pair of pants - and of course bought them 😉

Day 1, con’t

World Showcase was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday afternoon in February. But the spring-like breeze was refreshing and helped us remain calm as we maneuvered through the crowds.

Look at that blue sky!

I was craving pizza.

No….a strawberry limoncello.

No….BOTH!!!

I thought I’d test my luck and see if Via Napoli was accepting walk-ups. There were people hovering around the outdoor podium as well as sitting on nearby chairs waiting for their names to be called.

It didn’t look promising.

When it was my turn to speak with the cast member I cautiously asked, “Are you taking walk-ins?”

“How many in your party?”

“Two.”

“Your name and a number we can reach you?”

I couldn’t believe it. I was afraid to ask how long the wait would be since this seemed too easy. What if the wait was an hour? Woody and I were pretty hungry and I was unsure we could go much longer before turning ugly.

The words slipped out of my mouth. “About how long is the wait?”

“Shouldn’t be too long,” was the reply.

I turned towards Woody and grinned. The CM said we could wait in the lobby. We’d barely stepped inside when a host called our name.

I said hello to our friend Aviator Frog before being seated.

Perky Sam was our server. She was thrilled Via Napoli was taking walk-ins! She was thrilled we’d been there before! She was thrilled we were there for the pizza! She loves working at Via Napoli! (I am not mocking her. Her exuberance was infectious!) She informed us that she was not from Italy but was an American (not that we had any doubt.) She said that Disney is slowly ramping up the International Program and that all native Italians working in the restaurant wear red vests. (Of course I immediately scanned the dining room for red vests!)

Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly. I think this was the best strawberry limoncello I’ve ever had!

The pizza arrived almost as fast.

(Confidential to @Loco_driver ~ we ordered the large. We can’t handle the Mezzo Metro!)

The pizza was delicious and satisfying. We did not feel rushed. Our overall dining experience was great!

And I will be looking for Sam at the premiere of Happily Ever After in April.

Delighted to read your Via Napoli experience. Back in the day, as I’m sure you know yourself, walkups for a party of two were usually accommodated reasonably quickly.

Many years ago, my party of two walked up to Sci-Fi Dine-In and were seated fairly promptly at one of the “picnic tables” in the back, near the kitchen. It remains a wonderful memory. Ok, it was 1995.
