Trip Report One enormous BirthdayversaryPalooza! aka 2 Broke Guys & a dog & Irma COMPLETED

We've been using the "2 Broke Guys" moniker for so long now, we've outlasted the TV show "2 Broke Girls" on which it was based. (Canceled!)

The idea was a year+ of saving Disney Chase Visa points to see if we could go to Victoria & Albert's for our 10 year wedding anniversary completely on their dime - and keeping a running total including additions and withdrawals (for little WDW trips along the way) much like they did at the end of every episode of that TV show - like this:

$1,678.91

And that figure is actually what we have left to spend on our trip - about double what we would need for our V&A dinner! Not to mention: points paid for our 2 AP's, some of our lodging for this trip, and many mini-trips along the way. All that meandering, planning, brainstorming and trip reporting is on this thread:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...table-of-contents.909657/page-43#post-7874545

But that can take awhile. I'll give a little background in another post. Shout out to @dizfan917 for accidentally naming this thread in a post on that one, and to @Tuvalu for inspiring the "mother thread" with links to other thread(s) format.

Also to all those who have been following all this time! As those folks know, I go back and forth between posting with my phone and my laptop, and I'm more comfortable on the laptop. I'm using the phone now, whilst not asleep in Orlando, and anxious to get this first post out of the way before I do something to accidentally make it go poof! I will tag the others in a separate post.

Can't believe we're finally here!!

Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes! And I apologize after saying I usually trip report live, I kind of disappeared!

Kylie has been to BFPC multiple times now, so I think she should "buy" into it--kinda like a DVC for dogs! :p

Enjoy the remainder of your birthday today! :)

You are SO clever!!

What a great idea!! ;)

Yes, if they offer Kylie one chicken jerky treat for sitting through the seminar, we are in trouble! :D

Happy (belated) Birthday!!!

That is pretty much spot on for my birthday experience.

Of course, almost nothing went as planned...:hilarious:

while watching a video blog today, I was suddenly reminded of an afternoon when we were watching the parade at Magic Kingdom, we met two really nice guys who started chatting with us. It was Wednesday, September 21st, 2016 (I looked at my schedule) in front of Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe. Were you guys there that day? It hit me that it could have been you and Brian. I've since forgotten the guys names, of course. That would be crazy.

Hope you're having fun!

Welcome, everyone else, and thanks again for the bday wishes. (It was 8/31, Thursday.)

What did you think of Best Friends Pet Care? I'm fairly certain that we're taking Tink there when we go back to PA for a quick trip in October. I feel more comfortable about leaving her on Disney property than with some random stranger at a hole in the wall boarding facility. o_O

We have used them so many times that Kylie gets excited when we just turn onto the street where it is located. She knows she is going to see other dogs and play out back.

It can be a mixed bag sometimes, you're dealing with a young staff, and often different people each time. But the service is pretty consistent. I wish the check-in process was faster, because you sometimes have a bunch of dogs all waiting in the lobby, which can make for awkward moments. What we've learned to do is have one of us stand in line and check her in while the other takes her out back to play in the dog park. Bonus: she gets a little tired out, so she won't have pent up energy while in her "room." After playtime, they will put their leash on her and an id collar (you remove your own collar) and they take a little sample of hair with a comb (presumably looking for fleas, etc.) So she's not sitting in that lobby long at all. I like to wait until she can't see us anymore before leaving. Maybe she thinks we're still in that lobby all day or in the yard.

We would not bring her anywhere else. You can get extras like doggie ice cream, and yesterday we had her nails trimmed for like $10.

As with any dog park, you never know what other dogs will be like. Sometimes you have the whole place to yourself, sometimes there are friendly dogs there, and sometimes not so friendly dogs there. But I would definitely recommend the place.

Thanks! I'm thinking no, only because our AP expires on the 19th. If that's one year from our first use last year...then I guess not?

So back to dinner at the Turf Club, Wednesday night. Flight of bourbon pre-dinner, Manhattan with dinner. Dinner was:

Maple-Citrus Brined Pork Chop
Jalapeño Cornbread Pudding, Grilled Asparagus, and Vidalia Onion Sauce

Nothing sounded bad about that to me!! Pork, onions, maple - sold! It was very good.

Brian decided to go prix fixe - which I can't find online to copy - but basically it was some kind of steak, plus salad, plus french onion soup, plus a dessert. Brian asked if they could sub the sugar free dessert, and they said of course.

I had his soup, he had the salad, so that was our "appetizer course." All good. He was very happy with his steak, and I with my pork chop, although I did feel a little more tipsy than expected.

And then comes dessert. They brought me a cupcake with a candle in it and some balloons! I asked Brian if he had ordered that and he said no, it was all Turf Club. How sweet! And they brought his dessert, which I sampled of course, and it was delicious.

Our server returned to ask how we enjoyed our desserts. Brian remarked that he couldn't believe it was sugar free, it was that good.

...and our server's mouth fell open. Uh-oh.

It was not sugar free. She said she had even written down "sugar free dessert." She felt awful and seemed really scared. She came back a moment later with the chef. The chef was very nice and asked matter of factly if they needed to call an ambulance, and not to worry because Disney would pay for any medical treatment.

I could not stop laughing.

Why? I've seen Brian eat a piece of cake before. Sometimes his stepmother will bring out a regular cake for his birthday or something (which annoys me) and he'll eat it. He has been insulin dependent type I diabetic since age 10 (as many of you have heard before) and he knows how to deal with it. The one frustrating thing was the chef didn't know the specific recipe. When Brian asked her what was in it, she replied, "chocolate, sugar, espresso..." blah blah blah, but could not tell him how many grams of sugar, etc. which would help him figure out how much extra insulin to take.

They were both genuinely concerned, I felt really bad and I tried to put them at ease and make light of it a bit. Brian did the best he could to figure out an extra dose, and he was just fine.

He remarked that they took the dessert off the bill. I took his word for it. The next day I realized - no, they didn't. It was prix fixe LOL. Anyway, no harm done. We would eat there again should we ever stay at Saratoga Springs again (which is very possible down the road.)

After this, the mission was Disney Springs for my Tigger shirt! When I first got into the car to drive up to Orlando, he had a Visa gift card on my seat. He said that was for my Tigger shirt, and don't even think about putting it towards dinner. Awww. I said there is no way I am spending $50 on a Tigger shirt LOL.

One of the reasons I picked dinner at Saratoga was I figured we could boat or somewhat easily drive over to DS. Dinner ran longer than expected, and we had to pick up the pup within about an hour to 90 minutes, so we thought driving would be faster. Naturally, where we entered was nowhere near the t-shirt shop where they make them on the spot. Brian needed to use the restroom, so he said he would meet me there.

I stopped at every directory thingy I saw, and thought I was going in the right direction. I kept checking to make sure I was on the right path. Finally Brian is texting to find out where I am, and I'm right back where I started. :banghead: Right by the entrance. Nowhere near the t-shirt shop. Didn't even pass a store that might have one ready made. Thanks, Shanghai! Er, I mean, thanks flight of bourbon! Brian was not far away, and there was no way I was going on another trek. We gave up on the t-shirt and went to get my dog.

You know you're still feeling the bourbon when...

Next up: Thursday, my actual birthday, a day of endless possibilities and few plans. What shall we do? What shall we plan? Which plans will actually happen?

On the wish list: See Julie at Tune-In Lounge for cocktails & lunch. See Tigger at MK. At some point take a break in the room. Have dinner at the Flying Fish with super bartender extraordinaire, Craig, and order the fancy shmancy Lobster Nero Pasta which I would never order unless it was a special occasion (and 30% off LOL.)

Also on the wish list: go to the gym every morning to avoid gaining weight on this trip.:oops:

That wish should be a clue.

Spoiler alert: everything ultimately works out great. Hey, it's a Tony & Brian trip. At Disney World! Of course it works out great. :joyfull::D:p:cool:

In the morning, I woke up to this adorable and sentimental card from Brian, and some hotel breakfast LOL.

(Side note: it's not always easy to pick a good card when you have to rule out all the ones that are specifically a picture of a man and woman together LOL.) So, well done, Brian! (which reminds me, I have to pick out an anniversary card very quickly!) Amending my to do list.

But first, I must quote myself:

Just before, there were 3 other dogs out there, and we approached the fence to see if they were friendly. One with a long, skinny snout bit Kylie right on the nose through the fence! Nothing serious, but we waited for them to leave before entering.

As we rolled up on Best Friends Pet Care this morning, who should we see exiting the building?

IMG_2355.JPG

The 3 B's! (you figure it out.) (there is a mostly white one behind the one in front, you can just see her snout sticking out.)

To avoid a gang war, we took the high road and I asked Kylie to "sit" in the back seat of the car for a moment. We didn't go in until after they boarded their own gangsta vehicle. I believe they were from Riverbottom Nightmare Band. (Obscure Muppets reference.)

Then we went in, and she had a blast with this eight month old poodle!

Now take a bday pic with Daddy.
