One day trip?

So my daughter sprung on me that she would like to go to universal. I already have 9 days planned for Disney at the end of April. Now I'm kicking around the idea. Is one day worth it(that's all I'm willing to give up). I'm thinking since she's 13 we could take advantage of the single lane rides. I was thinking of going on a Monday. What's the best as far as transportation?

Yes. One day is worth it. If she likes Harry Potter, it's really a must, if possible. They are running a buy two days get the third free. We went for the first time last October and really enjoyed it. What we did was buy an ap, since they are so inexpensive. But, with one of the two day plus one day free tickets, you could go a couple of mornings for a few hours then go back to Disney for the rest of the day and maybe use the third day to go one evening as Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley are really neat at night. The tickets I bought for the rest of our party were only 176.00 plus tax, but I know they just had a price increase so it may be a little more. That's for three days park to park which you need if you want to ride the Hogswart Express.
We drove over. There is a thread on here somewhere where people gave good advice on how to get there for people who won't have their cars.

Careful once she gets in Diagon Alley you won't get her to leave. It is Harry after all and to a 13 YO girl ..........

Taxi or Mears are your choices to get back and forth. Mears you set up in advance the cab you can get from any hub for transport.

About twice the price for the cab but it is faster and on your vacation I think time is money.

I highly recommend 2 days at Uni. When we go between Uni and WDW, we take a cab. Relatively expensive, but time is very valuable in a WDW/Uni vacation. For us, the cab ride has been about $50 each way.

We've spent one day at Uni on our last two WDW trips, and it was well worth it. That was when HP was only at IoA, not US. Now you couldn't possibly do everything at Uni in one day, but you could certainly hit a lot of highlights, and it would be well worth it.

You might want to consider doing what we did on our last trip: we went directly to Uni from the airport late in the day, checked in to our hotel, and the next morning we were able to hit Uni at early opening with a free Express Pass, and then when Uni closed, we headed over to WDW for the rest of our trip.

We always rent a car for our trips; without one the price of transportation and the time involved would definitely go up.

You can get a 3 day ticket for price of 2 at uni right now. So here is what I suggest. Keep same amount of Disney days you were gonna but work in Uni. Disney parks are open later, hit Uni in the day and if up for it Disney at parks at night.

What kills me is the price of transportation. My husband is looking up rental car prices but to take the time out to go pick it up and drop it off, very time consuming. So now I'm thinking of a taxi for the convenience but it's expensive so one day it is.

9 days at Disney?

1 day MK
1 day Epcot
1 day DHS/AK
1 day at Typhoon
1 day at Blizzard
1 day for parkhopping/exploring/relaxing

Do 6 at WDW, 2 at USO and 1 at Aquatica. Easily the best vacation you'll ever take.

But if you're doing 1 day for Universal:

USF
  1. Despicable Me
  2. Transformers
  3. Mummy
  4. Disaster
  5. Gringotts
  6. HE
  7. MIB
  8. Simpsons
  9. E.T.
  10. T2
IOA

  1. Spidey
  2. Hulk
  3. Doom
  4. Popeye
  5. Dudley
  6. JPRA
  7. FJ
  8. DC
  9. Poseidon
  10. Cat
Those are the 20 I'd recommend you do in a day at USO.

Unfortunately I'm under the 45 day mark so it's hard adjusting our schedule now.
Like I said do Disney at night and Uni during the day, though if you can check out Diagon Alley at night it has a special feel to you don't get during the day...a little creepy cool!
You can do this...have half the family take the magic express, while others or just husband gets the rental car. You might find you love having the car, makes moving from park to park within disney easier. You can find some good rental deals just keep checking.
