What is the process of putting money in your account? I have some gift cards I am wanting to use on the cruise and some cash.

When you get onboard the ship go to Guest Services and they'll put them on your account for you. Hold onto the gift cards juuuust in case you don't use all your money. It'll get refunded to the card it came from if there's any leftover.

We've used gift cards in the shops. Not sure about bars or spa.

It's so much easier to just put it on your account and settle everything up. You can get a balance whenever you want so you can track your spending. We had some trouble using the cards, for example on CC, so we just decided it would save us a headache just to put everything on the room and then use the cards to pay it off 1/2way thru the cruise (or however often you want).

I didn't know you could do that! Do they just take all the gift card numbers and apply them to your room account and then you have a $x balance when you get there?

I agree. Easier to work off the ship board account. Do be careful if you link a credit card just in case. Don't assume it works like WDW where you charge up to the designated "limit" before they run the charges thru. We haven't found the exact logic on DCL but they seem to run charges thru linked cards whenever they hit a port or at other random times. If you want to exhaust the gift cards BEFORE charging to your card on file be sure to have the gift cards in place early on. Hope that makes sense.
