On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

There are luggage stores in a number of malls in tourist Orlando that cater to Brazilians. They buy so much stuff while on vacation they need to buy more luggage for the trip home.
That too, but moreso that luggage in the USA is also cheaper than in Brazil, so it's often smart to travel very light and simply buy new luggage while you're there.

Fun fact: before 2020 it was becoming a trend for expecting mothers to go to the USA to buy baby items. And I have a friend that found it cheaper to fly to NY for the sole purpose of purchasing a wedding dress.

But again, even if Brazilians could come back tomorrow, the current dollar value is going to impact spending, it's no longer cheaper.

I'm sorry, but there just aren't very many active productions anywhere. I don't know where you're getting your info, but most live action productions are stuck in pre-shoot activities. To give you some understanding, there's not a single network sitcom or drama currently filming. Not one.

The next Jurassic Park has restarted filming at Pinewood in England.

I know nothing about sitcoms or dramas, but you're just wrong on live-action films. But you can wait to read it next month from THR. I have nothing to prove here.

All the OG people coming back is necessary. We are at the precipice of the most titanic change in the company's history. We all know it.

COVID-19 has called out a lot of business bluffs. Disney is no different. They just have a decade of *insane* customer management ditching the middle class for a kind of customer that's ceasing to exist.

Really nice to see you back - I did not post as much during your heyday but always loved reading your material, Lee and of course the still present Marni.

As a person who loved going to WDW in the late 1980s and 1990s with my parents, I am actually not saddened too much to see the WDC about to fall of a cliff. The direction the company is going in was concerning. While I still love to visit WDW, the place is not what it once was prior to 2000. I look forward to taking my son but seeing decisions being made only on how we can push IP into the wrong place to make a buck, push social justice decisions ahead of rides that customers love despite being all time classics and creating more disgusting cupcakes than I can count to make every penny possible, something had to change.

I only hope the change is for the better and not worse.

I respect a lot of the people and their insights on this thread, but the teetering on bankruptcy thing is what's losing me.

Disney's financials are public. They've raised a ton of cash, enough cash to last over a year with virtually no revenue coming in and longer with revenue. Each debt raise they did was filled quite quickly... they've had no issues or resistance raising the cash they've needed. All at quite manageable terms. If they were to raise another $10B+ it looks like they'd have minimal issue doing so.

What am I missing here?
Companies can go into Bankruptcy for many reasons. Not to make this political but a certain someone who lives in a "white house" used it as a way not to pay people knowing they would except .10 on the dollar and then give him more money next project. He also used it to not pay contractors who front hundreds of thousands of dollars and couldn't afford to take .10 on dollar and he put them out of business. I would hope Disney doesn't go that route but with corporations you can never say never.

It will be a very slow affair (slower than normal) - the regulations for the industry are huge.

Content is going to be a major issue over winter. For Disney+ which enjoyed a fortunate, well timed launch are going to start dropping subscribers in vast numbers soon if they can’t get more on there, and quick. It’s already pretty bare if Netflix is the standard.

Ever seen the movie The Florida Project with actor Willem Dafoe?. Filmed on location in 192 Kissimmee. Truly an eye opener with people who don't know the dark side right near WDW.

Oh yeah. More than once. I sadly know people who personally live that life, and have no way out. Some of them were my former coworkers from 17 years ago... still living that life.
