Old Key West vs. Saratoga Springs

Hello there. I would appreciate some help! My mom has booked a Disney trip for her, my sister & I at the Coronado Springs. My sister and I just visited there in May, so I would like to surprise my mom, and upgrade us to either the Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, but I have no clue which to choose. I'd be very grateful for any input on either resort. Thank you in advance!!

I stayed at OKW in 2006 and SS last November.

I like the overall feel and theme of SS better. Most rooms are close to the pool, front desk,recreational/craft area and the dining, however some are not. We were right across the street from that area! THe rooms are slightly smaller than OKW,but we did not find that to be an issue. SS is more spread out,but busses tavel the resort for pick-ups just like OKW. The SS boat dock is further away from the front desk area, but not too bad.

I would go with SS. Any questions-let me know.

We haven't stayed at OKW yet (we check in there in another 13 days), but Saratoga is our home resort and we've stayed there once.

I would think that it is mainly a personal preference. I would try to check out pictures online and see if there is one that speaks to you more.

Keep in mind that Saratoga is a newer resort and the rooms might show that. Although OKW is going through a refurb so you may get a newer room and you may not depending on when you are going.

Also, OKW has a bit bigger rooms that Saratoga if that matters to you. I don't know what size room you're looking at, if it's a studio or possibly a one or two bedroom. If you are doing a one bedroom, OKW has full size washer and dryer in a laundry room instead of the stackable in a closet at Saratoga.

Either way, I think that they are both great resorts and would be a nice upgrade for your trip.

Personally I like the laid back feel of OKW. It is also a very quiet resort. I don't care for SSR and have not and don't plan to stay there. OKW makes me feel like I am staying away from Disney World, so its vacation within a vacation. I especially like the music on the bus and the lobby area.

It depends on what you are looking for. I have been to both several times. Both resorts are in the same general DTD area. Both are large complexes with roads running through them like a neighborhood, rather than a hotel beyond a front desk.

OKW is a much larger resort and it can take more time to get around as the buses stop at all stops throughout the complex. OKW has a laid back feel reminiscent of the island theme. The large footprint and more quiet pools also help contribute to that quiet feel. It is undergoing a rehab so some rooms are newer than SS. The rooms have great views of the beautiful grounds.

SS is also a large complex but it is more compact. It is across from DTD and within walking distance so it is a bit more lively, though still a quiet resort. The resort also offers a spa and the clubhouse for one of the golf courses. The main amenities are closer to most buildings than at OKW. The Turf Club restaurant is well reguarded.

Neither counter service is that great, OKW is just an outdoor walk-up window, while SS is an extremely small food court.

In general both are great choices. If you are into heading to DTD for dining and nightlife after the parks, or are into spa treatments and golf go with SS. If you like quiet pools and coming back to the resort for a nap during the day I'd go with OKW.

Hi!

I absolutely prefer SS over OKW. I feel the rooms at OKW really need to be renovated and the walls are really thin imho.

I have stayed at SS about 5 times and have enjoyed every minute!

Have fun on your trip!!

Adding on to what others have said: Old Key West's studios are not only larger than the ones at Saratoga Springs, but they have two beds as opposed to one bed and a pullout.

We've stayed at both and of the two prefer OKW over SS, bigger more spacious accomodations and a more relaxing feel, that being said, our kids feel that both resorts are out of the way and prefer the BWV (which we do love and is one of our two home resorts) since there is so much activity going on there.

I always thought SS was much, much bigger!

I couldn't find actual acreage numbers for the resorts, but SS has 12 buildings while OKW sports 56 and the rooms themselves are bigger. The OKW subdivision layout adds a sprawling quality to the resort.

SS does technically include the Treehouse Villas which may make it's physical footprint larger than OKW, but for purposes of guests staying at SS resort itself the Treehouses really do not affect the experience.
