Old cartoons?

Its a shame that a company that made its living on cartoons that there really isn't a place to see them except at the mentioned hotel lobbies. I for one love the old Disney cartoons. the quality is far superior then the cartoons produced today. I received the Donald Duck series that are in the metal tins for Christmas one year and watch it all the time. We even bring them with us to watch while we are getting ready to go into the parks.

I wish they'd show the old cartoons in resort rooms. I also wish they'd air on a regular basis on one of the Disney owned TV channels. The Disney Channel has so much potential as they could be airing classic cartoons and movies (That Darn Cat, Escape from Witch Mountain, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, the original Love Bug, original Freaky Friday, etc.) and instead it's the Tween Channel.

They are showing an old cartoon loop in the room again. I want to say it's channel 35. It's the same station that does the Duffy bedtime story. Sadly, the cartoons they are showing are not the original 7-8 minute shorts, but rather the abbreviated 3 minute versions they show on Disney Channel entitled "Have A Laugh". Disney's gotten so cheap, they can't even give us the full length cartoon in the resort room.

Not only that but even with offering the shortened versions the collection is not very large. I think we saw the same Learning Baseball Goofy cartoon about 12 times during our stay. My kids didn't mind because they love the cartoons. There were huge sections taken out of these classics to shorten them for no apparent reason.

I agree. I'd love to be able to take a break mid-day to sit and watch cartoons in the parks even if was only for 20 minutes or so.

I love sitting with my son on the bleachers at Casey's, watching the cartoons while eating a hot dog.
The last time we were in Casey's (this past Saturday, to get hot chocolate!) the screen wasn't working. The audio was still playing but the screen was just black. Hopefully not a sign of things to come.

That's what I don't understand. Why not just show the entire cartoon? Makes zero sense.

Totally agree.
But, I have a feeling the reason they did this is 'cause someone at TWDC did research and found out that the attention span of your average kiddo these days is a lot shorter, plus that way they could still use them for a kind of "advertising" by cutting by out all the "slow" parts.
And, also they can use them on the resort TV for the same reason.
Just a thought.

I miss the old stuff so much! I remember that up until a few years ago, around 10 or 11pm The Disney Channel would start showing the old stuff, and I loved it. Why can't they have a 'Classic' Disney Channel? My daughter LOVES the 'have a laugh' spots so much we bought the DVDs, and she loves the old cartoons when I find them on YouTube as well. I think there's definitely an audience, they don't give people and kids enough credit these days.

As for the parks- it does make me said that lobbies and Caseys are the only place you can see the cartoons. It would be great to have a tiny theater to have them run on a loop for little breaks in the day.

I agree. A few years back, Disney put out some box sets of their older stuff. We picked up the Davy Crockett series. Wished we would have picked up the others. I believe one of the sets was some of the old toons.

I bought a bunch of those as well. They're great!

Another good idea is to youtube Disney Classic Cartoons, or if you know the name of the cartoon, just do a search for that. Then you can download them and put them on a DVD. If anyone is interested in good free software to use, just let me know.

Yeah, I guess it's possible, but look how popular Phineas and Ferb and Spongebob are. Those are both about 15 minutes, and much more complex (there's a word that I NEVER thought I'd use to describe Spongebob) than the old Disney cartoons.

Some of the resorts have movies at the pool and will often show the classic cartoons. Last time we were at AKL they showed the classic Donald dvd and our little one loved it. We have several of these on dvd now and she watches them all the time. I've always loved the classic cartoons!

Exactly.
Ultimately, who, besides them, knows why they've chosen to do this to those classics.
To me anyway, it seems like an afront to the time and talent spent on those little gems.
Not to get too carried away here, but it's kinda' like displaying or showing only half of the Mona Lisa.

You can watch old Mickey cartoons on Main Street at Disneyland.

Complex? I don't think these newer cartoons can come close to comparing with Disney's earlier work at all in content, humor, or even the quality of the animation. Classic Disney cartoons should be showing all over the property for entertainment, nostalgia and showcasing the talents of the earlier animators that helped build the Disney reputation and name.

I'm referring to storylines. In the majority of the older cartoons, it was just music and little, if any, dialogue. By comparison, today's cartoons have much more detailed storylines to follow. Sounds silly, but it's true.
