OK, lets talk cutbacks and lowered quality at DLR-

Let me pull up the ole micechat soapbox... because I gotta say something after my experience last night...

I've been visiting Disneyland on a rather regular basis (what can I say, I'm a passhole) and I will admit, that in recent months, things have notably gone downhill. From ride operations, to crowd management, to crowds alone, to food... things have been well, just crappy, and worthy of naysayers of the micechat type. I would like to use a specific example I had from last night.

Rancho Zocalo, the beef burrito. My last visit compared to my visit last night-

Size- Previous- two people could split it, easily (my friends always did). Now- one person can finish it, easily.
Plate- Previous- larger (so as to accommodate the bigger burrito). Now- smaller (so as to accommodate the smaller burrito).
Inside- Previous- had vegetables (onion and peppers) in a sauce inside. Now- No vegetables.
Meat- Previous- mediocre for sure, but had some flavor (maybe from the veggie sauce?). Now- tasted boiled. I've eaten bland meat before, but wow, it was flavorless.
Sides- Previous- Came with a scoop of guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Now- only a scoop of pico de gallo.
Price- Previous- cheaper. Now- slightly higher.

SO, I hate to preach micechat BS here, but man, the difference I saw last night was night and day. I didn't mind previously to get the mediocre 'burrito' because it was ok and filled me up. Now, it's not even worth near the money, it's complete crap, and I've had better food in cal state university commons cafeterias.

Does anyone else have any examples of... dare I say it... 'declining by degrees'? I used the burrito as my example, but I've seen a lot of other things around that have been getting worse and worse, while paying top dollar.

The general mindset of TDA regarding the parks has gone downhill, but I do have some specifics. I'll start with just one for now.

The lack of paint around the park is astounding, ESPECIALLY in Toontown. There is chipped paint everywhere. It looks tacky.

I just don't eat in the parks anymore. Food has gone so far downhill and the prices have just climbed. If anything I'll get a breakfast sandwich at Starbucks - it's not marked up too much over the outside world and at least I know what I'm getting.

Granted I have only been one time. and it was this week, so my opinion may not mean much. I wasn't really impressed with many of the food choices I tried. I had the Carne Asade plate at Rancho Del Zocalo and was not impressed. Meat was fine, but the beans rice and enchiladas were kinda bad. (I am from Texas, so I have expectations for my enchiladas.) Didn't really care for my shrimp po boy at French Market. However, I had the Chicken Sun-dried Tomato Pesto at Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta and felt for $10.99 I really got a good tasty lunch, in a real bowl with a real fork.

Yeah, why is a corn dog nearly $10 now? I remember when it used to be $6, and it wasn't that long ago.
Not the Corn Dogs!!! :( I don't remember what I payed last year so when did this happen? Sad to hear these things are spreading to Disneyland. Definitely killing my view of the grass being greener on the other side. Reminds me of my recent breakfast at WDW where I definitely noticed a higher price coupled with smaller portions. How bad could it get by next summer? I don't even want to know...

One shouldn't expect to have authentic-tasting Mexican at a theme park, even one such as Disneyland, despite the fact that it's a mere 30-40 minutes away from Los Angeles, the city with the most Mexicans in this country. Trust me, I've been let down multiple times, and I'm a native of Los Angeles, which is pretty much Mexico.

This has been going on for years.

They'll probably go up an extra 50 cents. They're currently in the $8 range. They're still really tasty and better than spending money on a nasty burger in the park.

You guys seen Jammin' on the Backlot? While I was passing through DCA on my way to Haunted Mansion yesterday, they were announcing its existence on the park's PA system. It's like a bunch of picnic tables, tacky decorations and long island iced teas that cost nearly 15 dollars.

To call that area a "backlot" is laughable.

That has got to be the worst attraction in all the resort.

I'm a simple man:

Plaza Inn Chicken
Cove Bar Lobster Nachos
Breakfast at Flo's
Dole Whip.

Don't bother with anything else.

I suppose my version of this would be:

Napa Smith Hopageddon
Lee's sandwiches and spring rolls from down the street
Pooh Corner Peanut Butter Cookies
Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantasyland dark rides

Don't bother with anything else.

I still have my doubts that the whole Shanghai business is causing so many cut backs at DL. I can see decreased staffing, but lower food qualify?
Some food may indeed be lower quality, but I just don't know if it would be due to Shanghai.

They have been making improvements too. For example, they just totally repainted most of Toontown.

Has the plaza inn went downhill as well? That was arguably the best cs place om either coast.

From what I have read here, other sites, and friends in the business, it all has to do with SDL. Especially the food costs at all venues country wide. I was in the hospitality business for 30 years, lower food costs didn't always equate with lower quality, but most of the time it did.
