Indeed. I remember that scene from the show - I had to sit on an eight foot high tower, make it lean to the left and right a few times before making it topple forwards with me still on top
If it makes you feel any better, it's technically not a drop. It's a hydraulically controlled system, that PULLS you, faster than the speed of gravity. So it's not a system that could malfunction and make you actually fall. It's being pulled from BELOW the car, to give a sensation that you're dropping.
So yeah, 100% safe. And if you do get creeped out to the point you don't want to ride, just tell a cast member, and they can take you around so that you can meet the rest of your family when they get off the ride...(yay for having a friend from my CP that worked on ToT)
