'Ohana?

Loved Kona's breakfast. Haven't had their dinner. Regardless, never been to 'Ohana. Therefore, I made the ADR. Dinner only -- no character breakfast! I'll talk to them and ask if they are okay with it. We can change as long as 1 day or more out.
I think you will be fine with 'Ohana, JohnD.

Before you start thinking, "Is he kidding? Why is he even asking?", hear me out.

I just snagged an ADR for 'Ohana in April as soon as I saw it. I hear it is a must-do, especially for families with young children. Except in my case, I'm traveling with my 73 year old parents.

What do you think? Still do or too distracting because of the kids, considering my parents' age?
I honestly think your parents will really enjoy it. To be honest, in our experiences, breakfast seemed to be more geared to young children (especially with the characters) Dinners were always wonderful.

Its great to be in Ohana's when Wishes are going on. They lower the lights and play the wishes music and you can see the fireworks if you get a window view or close to it. At least tey did this last time we were there and had a later reservation.

'Ohana USED to be great. ThevCM's really played their part as your 'cousin's' to the hilt, now they barely try. The food has declined slowly although it was never truly about food anyway. It is a family locale and if you don't want or enjoy the hula hoop, coconut race or singalong interruptions this place is not for you.

Seeing the fireworks from 'Ohana is a non issue. It used to be nice (not great) but the trees and pool 'mountain' have made the fireworks a nice curiosity at best. Please don't plan around it.

It's not worth any hype anymore and Disney should be ashamed.

We went there for dinner for the first time on our last trip in June and we loved it. the wings were amazing and that was just an appetizer. the dessert was eh but we were so stuffed from all of the meat that we weren't hungry for dessert anyway. we also the breakfast but that is more because my wife is a huge Stitch fan. O'hana is now a standard for both breakfast and dinner on every future trip (we have 3 planned through June 2015). Our only concern is what will happen when they have to refurb or gut the GCH? Will O'hana go away or just be redone?

Until Be Our Guest opened, dinner at 'Ohana was the most difficult ADR to secure on the property. It's extraordinarily popular and makes a mint for Disney. It won't go away, regardless of what happens to the GCH.

We didn't think it was kid crazy at all. The food was amazing and too much. I'm in the minority, but have never found anything that great about Kona. Just a big open restaurant. Hate the risk of being sat along the lobby where everyone stands waiting and watching.

Dinner can be great, or less than mediocre just like any other restaurant that serves a large number of diners. In 2011 everything was absolutely fantastic. We came home yesterday, and our visit earlier in the week wasn't great. We had a reservation at 6:30 and everything except the beef was overcooked.

If it happens to us again, we'll probably decide to try something else for a while but we won't write off a meal that we've enjoyed often because of one experience.

I love dining here just for the atmosphere. I think your parents will enjoy it too. "Ohana means family" after all. :)
