Ohana or Chef Mickey’s

My daughter loves Pluto and we were going to try to do character dining again this time around. I see that both Ohana and Chef Mickey’s have Pluto. Where ohana only has him for breakfast. I know that GG has Pluto but my husband did not enjoy the food there and said he doesn’t want to go back.

So which one? I kind of think Ohana is better for dinner based on the menu, but the characters aren’t there then. I am debating about just finding Pluto during the day somewhere and get on line for a picture with him. Is the poly hard to get to from the WL?

I was also planning on booking Tusker House this time too, along with Mickey’s Backyard BBQ.

In my personal opinion, I think Ohana is a better option. We did breakfast last year with my then 6 year old. The food was standard family style breakfast, but being able to meet Stitch, Lilo in addition to Pluto was awesome. We also had a great view of the lake and could see the castle in the distance. We did dinner at CM and were disappointed in the food choices. It just was meh. The characters were fun, but it wasnt worth it for the cost, even if you are using a dining plan. There wasn't a huge selection of food and the buffet seemed more limited than others. To my recollection, Pluto meets in town square in MK, but if you line up early before other people realize that he is there, you shouldnt wait too long.

.

I'll agree that 'Ohana is probably a better choice. However, I have to answer this question - the Polynesian is definitely much more complicated to get to from WL than the Contemporary. The Contemporary is just a quick boat ride away from Wilderness Lodge. For the Poly, you will have to take a boat to the Magic Kingdom first, and then you can jump on the launch that goes to the GF and PV. The launch also dumps you onto the dock directly in front of the GCH. Just be aware that it will stop at the GF first. You can also hop on a ferry from the MK to the TTC - not recommended if you hate walking since the TTC is farther away, but you don't have to make a stop on the ferry like you do on the resort launch.

Another alternative is taking the boat from the WL to the Contemporary and then jumping on the resort Monorail and heading to the Poly.

We prefer Chef Mickey's for breakfast, simply because there's more variety. I also like that their first seating is 7am, which is early enough to hit rope drop for any of the parks. Side note, we've eaten at Tusker a few times...not a fave of ours, but also have never seen Pluto there. It's always been Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy when we've gone.

My daughter wouldn’t be good with a 7 am breakfast. She’s better later at night. But good to know that the breakfast has more of a variety at chef Mickey’s.

Why don’t you like Tusker? Is the food not good? Or is it just different. I was thinking about doing the ROL package there too.

My friend just got back from WDW and had breakfast at 'Ohana. Her 3 kids loved it and the adults enjoyed the food. It's one they definitely want to go back to. I've always enjoyed breakfast at Tusker House (and lunch twice) but I've never seen Pluto there either. I like the food options at Tusker House - the less typical options that I prefer while still having the standard breakfast/lunch my husband prefers. It has something for every preference.

Thanks. Maybe we will try ohana then on a day that we’ll go later to a park. Could you easily get to HS from the poly?

Rumor is that Artist Point (at WL) will be reopening late fall with a character meal for breakfast (and possibly other meals too). Again... it is rumor only, but if it comes to pass, may fit in with your plans?

We're actually really adventurous eaters. Tiffins was our fave meal last trip and Sanaa is on our must-do's each trip if we can work AKL into our plans. We've just had poorly prepared/poor quality food at Tusker as well as some service issues the first time around. We've eaten there twice...second visit was a second chance since it gets so many good reviews...like maybe first time was just an off day. We still may have been there are on two separate off days, because I had a friend who just ate there a few weeks ago and they loved it. Either way, we're done with Tusker.

But the OP is asking about character meals. Ohana at dinner isn't a character meal.

To the OP, Ohana has a much better view, Chef Mickey's has a much better selection. Ohana is all you care to eat, but it's scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, Mickey waffles, and some Poly-themed breads. That's about it. CM will have different egg dishes, pancakes and french toast as well as Mickey waffles, a carving table, a cold table with yogurts and fruits, lots of different desserts...

I would consider Ohana at night too if it’s that much better. My daughter is better at night than in the morning so I’d even consider a late enough one to see the fireworks - or at least the fireworks on the beach after dinner.
