Staying at CR in August. No ADR's for Chef Mickey's for breakfast on our last day, so we were thinking of doing breakfast at either 'Ohana or 1900. Any difference between the breakfast foods? How are the character experiences?

1900 has hatter, alice, mary poppins, tigger and pooh. Its also a buffet with a wide variety of options. 'ohana is lilo, stitch, mickey and pluto. Food is family style and includes scrambled eggs, potatoes, fruit, sausage, bacon, waffles, etc.

We had horrible food at ohana...sent back 3x and either raw or overcooked. of course, these meals are highly inconsistent...so, you could have a great experience like some or yucky food like us.

we have had consistently good food at 1900 and good characters at both.

Enjoyed both. My 2 boys loved meeting stitch at ohana which was our main reason for booking. Food was good but we preferred the buffet at 1900. The characters were fab at 1900-funny and great interactions-but Mary Poppins and Alice couldn't compete with Stitch!!

For me food is a secondary concern when doing a character breakfast.

The reason for doing a character breakfast for us is so the kids can interact with the characters. So we pick these breakfast's based on which characters they want to meet.

Personally I'm happy to have crap food if it puts a smile on my kids faces. If you can get good food and happy kids then double win (most occasions in our experience).

Thanks to all for your input and wisdom, most appreciated. Our 12 year old daughter is thrilled with our decision, that's worth it all!

Late to the game, but we had a better meal and a better time at 1900. The food was OK at Ohanas but much more limited choices. The plus side is it's served family style so you don't have to get up to fetch your grub. Our last trip we had a very late breakfast reservation at 1900, late enough that it was essentially "brunch" for us. But they kept making fresh food, and we wound have a good 10 minute or so interaction with the Mad hatter and Alice who really made our kids feel special, and other characters would come and go all along. I recognize YMMV and we shouldn't expect a similar amount of attention if we go back, but it did give us the warm fuzzies and some very funny video.

The reviews overall for Akershus are very good. Anyone have any first hand accounts? It seems to be an "interesting" menu, kinda grateful for the typical breakfast fare.

I loved Akershus. It had the standard breakfast options for the not-as-adventurous, and some other options for the slightly-more-adventurous. The smoked salmon was delicious, and I ate a ton of it. That's one of my favorite breakfast foods anyway. We got lots of pictures with all of the princesses at our table and got a really good professional one with the whole family and Belle. I think a print of the professional picture was included with the breakfast.

We went to Ohanas in October because I.....I mean my son ;)...ADORES Stitch! :D
The food was standard breakfast food... Nothing special, but it was good. I agree with the others who said it's really about who your children most want to meet.

I've done both and I prefer 'Ohana! 'Ohana had really yummy potatoes that I haven't seen offered at any of the other breakfasts I've been too and they were a huge selling point for me. Also, it was really cool to meet Lilo because she's kind of hard to come by in the parks. You also have Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto there too. It's family style where 1900 is a buffet, so that's one of the main differences. But either way it's unlimited food.

1900 was also good. There was basically a normal selection of breakfast foods on the buffet. The characters were Pooh, Tigger, Mad Hatter, Alice, and Mary Poppins. I'm not the biggest fan of any of those characters, but it was still a lot of fun & the Mad Hatter is always a pleasure to meet because he's so silly.
