Oh no, not DisneyQuest Rumors again!

It seems like clockwork we get a DQ rumor around the time to the build up of IAAPA or the Downtown Disney rehab project concept discussions.

The Jan-2008 close order was rescinded according to sources, and that new carpets and flatscreen displays ordered. Speculation is that rather than close down for a ESPN Zone flagship the site will be given a refurbishment.

Any comments?

Screamscape.com reports that it looks like they are putting big screen TVs in DisneyQuest.

They speculate that it might just be a refurbishment, or they are going to do something like split the building, having some ESPN Zone stuff while keeping other DisneyQuest attractions alive.

I did DQ for the first time this year and loved it... If it were to close, I cannot say I'd miss it... But, if it remains open, I will visit it again...

Cause Not ;)

There was no "close-order".

I love the way that when anyone says DQ 'was' going to close there is a slew of 'oh no it wasn't' - but when you point out that contracts had been placed on hold, and not renewed now for three months, and those defenders vanish!

Look - I love DQ, and think that WDW would be mad to drop it in the face of the closure of Virgin Mega at DTD. But updating the site would be difficult with so many of the hard/software manufacturers of key components gone or adverse to working with Disney.

Just look at the problem with the most popular DQ attraction. 'CyberCoaster' was built by ETC (same team that built Mission:Space) and are in legal dispute with WDC. The SGi graphic systems are discontinued and SGi is in no position to support the systems. There are some that question the certificate DQ got in '98 to run the site is still viable?

One of our sources at TSR reported that there is little interest in closing down DQ under the new Iger management team, but there is a lack of interest to admit they may have been wrong over DQ's fate over ESPNZ. Remember the Phili 'DisneyHole' is still there!

And the rest!

I remember the day Chicago closed they said it was across the chain!

That was however when Eisner's team claimed that DQ was not popular and always empty - but hard to claim that now (especially after July's record figures)!!

I have been hearing the rumors of DQ closing for about 2 years now.
YEP so I rushed to visit for the first time this year. I really liked it in the morning but in the afternoon it was full of kid squalor. And it was kind of dirty. And a lot of the cool old-school arcade cabinets were broken. Sooo bummed Galaxian was not working. :(

EDIT - post 666.....

I'm going to check it out next week when we go. I'll have to go on a weekday though to try to avoid as many kids as possible......:lookaroun

Hello! HINT - Get there when it opens and do Pirates, Jungle Cruise and CyberSpace Mountain first. It doesn't take long for Pirates to have a wait, and by early PM CyberSpace will also have quite a wait. My bad - leaving for lunch (I am such a foodie) and coming back much later and it being very loud and crowded. Maybe bring a snack and when you leave by 2-3 pm don't come back. Then again I went in the summer so perhaps it won't be so busy now that the kids are in school and the weather is cooler.

Enjoy your trip! :)

The story of DQ

Nice images from the visit - interesting the Cheesecake logo is still up!?

The reason 'some' people hate DQ is the whole factor of interactive attractions against passive (standard). Traditionalists against new audiences.

There was also the little issue of $80m development fee and its viability.

Those that hated DQ, hate it more as it survived 10years and is still extremely popular with the audience it was targeted to entertain - even with flaky hardware, even with flaky facility, even with a flaky location.

Those that criticized DQ now have to admit that it survived - and those Disney executives that killed the project, survived the Iger appointment, and the latest round of job cuts are going to work hard to stop people asking too many questions about why DQ is still so strong even with 11year old hardware.

Be ready to hear about the idea of in-door-interactive theme parks coming back in fashion!

Just curious here... who are you? And why are you saying that Bob Iger is making decisions about DQ DTD?
