It took them forever to get the app released in general and then it was only on non-smart verizon phones. It took months after that to get it on android devices. Again, months later we are getting it on iphones. They're moving very slowly and clearly in steps...don't get too upset yet until a few months go by and you see whether or not it becomes worldwide release.

I appreciate that they take things in baby steps and that they may widen the release. But the decision to limit the original app to Verizon users could be justified because if the business relationship with Verizon. Though I think it could be argued that even that is evidence of Disney showing a lack of understanding of the nature and scope of the smartphone universe.
But a limited release to the US only can't be justified on that basis. The Verizon business relationship clearly isn't in play and the data is available on the mobile site so it's not data protection either.
Since there doesn't appear to be a rationale for this decision, this seems more of an intentional decision, non-caring about the impact on a part of its customer base. This is a company which apparently has lost its customer service focus in many areas and this is yet another one. And yes, it's a decision like this that really makes me feel like I have to re-evaluate my loyalty since it now seems to have been misplaced.

While the generalized "High Demand" "See Now" data is available on the WDW mobile website, and is what is displayed on the Verizon app if you're not inside a park, the app adds much more functionality once it recognizes that you're in a park, including the exact wait times displayed in the park.
As for which carrier they went with, it's purely a numbers game. At the time the partnership started (and I presume still today), Verizon had the most subscribers of any U.S.mobile carrier. Yes, AT&T was the only carrier with the iPhone at the time, but when you go by number of subscribers (and thus the greatest potential percentage of your park visitors), it was a solid business decision to go with Verizon.
As for the international market, I'd side with people who've said to be patient and see if/when it becomes available.

I thought I heard/read rumblings about perks for Verizon customers... any idea what these are?
Someone posted about a pirates game, guess the character puzzle, and a couple other mini-games, but I those are appearing on my US Cellular droid. As are a bunch of Youtube videos about the park.
Also curious about the added functionality at the park (I know the wait times display in minutes, not generalizations).
This will be interesting to see if they try to integrate xPass with this, or implement some crowd control through it (like the tricksy "surprise" FPs). During peak seasons, instead of having cast members handing out the vouchers for the earlier meal times, they could easily ping user's phones with a coupon to show at the meal...
Of course, it all depends on how many people use this.

Instead of jumping off the cliff - one should realize just because YOU don't know the reason it might be held back one shouldn't assume there is no other possible conclusion.

Interesting. She got an error message saying it was not compatible with her phone. We were able to Download Lines, but not this.
Edit: I verified at the Verizon app store that it is not on the compatible list.

She has an Alcatel OT-981A Tribe Android. (I had to copy and paste this from our provider's website because I know nothing about smart phones.) It's not a remotely new phone. She got it last summer. But it is not on the supported list. Doesn't look like any Disney apps are.

Based on what I see, it looks like the Alcatel OT-981A is at 2.1 and Alcatel is not putting out a 2.2 release for it.
