Official Toy Story Mania site OPEN!

I'm very "meh" on this whole concept..
Me too.

Am I the only one who notices the similarities between Toy Story Mania and Buzz Lightyear in Tommorowland? Buzz didn't do it for me, so from what I've seem so far, TSM leaves me feeling very blahhhh.

MEH.

You know what we need? A semi-obscure Disney Character attraction. Clara Cluck? Anyone? :ROFLOL:It has to be better than this.

I agree with Merf. You can put me down as "meh" as well. It's better than nothing, but it just seems like a band-aide for two failing parks when what they need is major surgery.

Yes, and Disney's senior executives acknowledged the need for major surgery for DCA very publicly just last month, and then told America what they were going to do about it. This Toy Story Mania ride is not part of the surgery, but instead was given the greenlight for DCA back in '04. MGM got the go-ahead for it in '05.

There is major surgery coming to DCA in the form of a 1.2 Billion Dollar overhaul that happens during 2008-2011. But the 1.2 Billion Dollar "major surgery" wasn't approved until just a few months ago, and then formally announced in October. Work gets underway in DCA in '08.

To use your surgery analogy, DCA is going under the knife in '08 and Toy Story Midway Mania just happens to be a new ride approved years ago before anyone could have dreamed they would pour a Billion+ into the place.

As for MGM, there's a name change in '08 and DCA's old Pixar Block Party parade being sent out in March. Don't know about "major surgery" to the tune of 1.2 Billion for that park, but then I'm not an expert on the WDW properties.

This ride will be very cool; Trust me. The whole area will look great when it's complete as well so it's not only the show building/attraction itself but the entire area that may be expanded to include other Pixar stuff. :animwink:

The video w/ Tom Fitzgerald amused me. He says, "TSM is based on the classic carnival games we KNOW and LOVE: the ring toss, the dart toss..."

Don't you just LOVE the ring toss? I know when I go to DAK, the FIRST thing I want to do is RUN to Dinoland and play the carnival games! I can barely pull myself away to go ride Everest! Superfun!

Seriously, the only thing TSM has going for it is the 3-D element. Too bad the ride is envisioned as a D-ticket. It's been so long since MGM got a new ride most people are going to assume this is a major E-ticket addition.

I'm also disappointed that the "spring-action shooter" is attached to the vehicle a la WDW's Buzz. Was hoping it'd be like DL's or MIB where the gun isn't attached to the vehicle.

Before we say its just like MIB or Buzz why don't we wait and see. From the descriptions I've read on other sites, it seems like it'll be different enough to easily distinguish itself and actually possibly be better than those rides, Buzz at least.

It looks very Wii Play to me. I don't really like Buzz Lightyear either (the ride, not the character.) I'd much rather be entertained on a dark ride than shoot at balloons.
I'll give this a shot since I adore Toy Story, but I don't think I'll like it much either. But at least MGM (DHS, whatevs) is getting something.

Very cool. Thanks for the info.

As for the music, is this the official music, or do you think it's some generic promotional music?

And does anyone feel that this ride is kind of like a giant Nintendo Wii? :)

The site is cute! I had a good time shooting at all of the targets in the background.

I like Buzz, and I am excited to see anything new come to DHS. I WANT to spend a day there, and not just do it on the first day to ride Tower and Rockin Roller Coaster (I would do the letter thing..but I always mess it up:p).

Is it the best thing in the world since sliced bread? No. Is it a start? Yes, and I will take it.

This ride will be a great addition to the park. It provides a much needed, fun addition for the families with young children.

So what if it isn't outofthisworldneverbeforeseengroundbreaking? A new ride doesn't have to be all that to be a success and to make the day's park experience better.

This thread proves the argument that if you ask enough people, you will find someone who will complain.

Haha yes, not in a good way though. I <3 my Wii.

And while I don't particularly think I will like it, I'm sure it will be a big hit with little kids, and it's great for the park to be getting something new.

Another big feature on the ride will be the ride's determination of the skill of each individual player. As you progress, the ride keeps track of the score and your skill level and will tailor make the ride easier or harder depending on your level of expertise.

I'm just glad the attraction is a huge improvement from the Pirates game at Disneyquest.... when I did that a year ago I almost puked cause it was so blurry and old. The idea is similar but if you've done it expect the animation to be improved. WDI told us it would be like that and I was like  but then we saw it and :sohappy:

Imagine something like MIB (although MIB spins too much in my opinion) mixed in with GMR since it'll speed up and slow down at certain times as well as going different directions depending on how crappy or good you are.

That would be awesome.

I have a great fear that Everest is the last of the branding-free megarides. As much as I love Pixar, and continue to support the merger 100%, I'm sick to death of new attractions being based on Pixar films. Go obscure, or go IP-free. Pirates and Mansion were attractions *before* they were movies!

Heading for the great escape.
Did I hear him right? "Spring loaded shooters" well I hope they are serious springs given the tendency of the "lazers" on Buzz to break and they have no mechanics.

I assume you mean the track you follow will depend on how good you're playing the games. But if each vehicle has 4 people, it will have to be based on how well all four people are playing, no?

I assumed the 3d screens and not the track would be the part of the attraction that responds to the players' abilities.

Yes, thats one reason why I want the wii so badly.

Overall it does seem kinda dumb for them to make a TS ride thats very similar to Buzz, but like most have said anything adding to MGM other than shows, is a major plus in my book. Originally I thought of it as a major E ticket, but now after hearing different opinions Im thinking its going to be on Buzz's level(I do enjoy Buzz alot, but I wouldnt stand in a line for it that extends outside of its door) I am excited about this though, and cant wait to see what else they will be adding to mgm in the next few years, hopefully something.

I hear that is what some think it will be.

It'll be like a sping loaded launcher much like in a carnival game. But, of course, I would assume you are shooting virtual projectiles.

I guess if you think about it, yes, it is like Buzz, but it's also a dramatic departure from it.

I would assume with Toy Story Mania, you can't control where you spin. And the different variations and 3-D Glasses make it a whole new experience. So, maybe it won't be so similar after all.
