"Official" Princesses list

That's an obscure blog. The OP asked for the "official" list.

I know, but this one quote caught my eye.

"According to an LA Times article, Ed Catmull and John Lasseter, who oversee Disney Animation, will be setting aside the princess crowns in order to focus on animated features that appeal to broader audiences with more contemporary material."

How can Mulan be a princess if her parents are not King/Queen and she did not marry a prince, by the rules she is not a princess not matter what disney says.

....on another note, pocahontas can not be a princess either since she is the daughter of a chief, and as we all know chiefs daughters were not known as princesses nor were they able to have any stature in their tribes.

Facepalm.

Newsflash: Hereditary rights to the throne of a nation IS NOT THE POINT. This isn't a socio-political debate. It's a marketing franchise. Therefore, "what Disney says" is all that matters.

Gah! How can Lightning McQueen be a car!? He talks and has a face! Cars don't talk and have faces! Therefore, "by the rules" he is not a car no matter what Disney says. Angst, angst, angst.

This may sound really stupid, but why doesn't anyone email a Disney representative and ask this question. If you get a response, how much more official can you get?

Rapunzel is a princess, there have been box sets with her marketed as such. She'll be added to the site once the hype for Tangled goes down a bit, that's how it went with Tiana.

Mulan and Pocahontas are princesses too.

It does not matter if you email disney or not, it is all a marketing ploy. It is easier to sell the characters as princesses than if they were not and some of them are not.

Actually when it comes down to it, they are not true princesses no matter what disney says. They can market it anyway they wish, Pocahontas and Mulan are not true princesses plain and simple, if you have proof otherwise please enlighten us.

Ok most of the stuff I see at the disney store doesn't list mulan and pochantas. But I believe you guys. I know they have an official list or something. That started in like 200 when they started marketing all the stuff.

It's a marketing campaign, there are no "rules" other than what Disney wants them to be. Fairies don't exist, doesn't stop Disney from marketing a whole line of them.

I understand that, I already stated that it was all for marketing. I was just making the point that they really are not princesses in the typical sense, not the disney marketing sense, that is all. I was not trying to ruffel any feathers and I appologize if I did.

I think people tend to accept or reject based off how popular the princess was.
Yep. Remember Giselle from Enchanted? I cannot remember if her merchandise specifically used the "Disney Princess" logo, but the type of merchandise, its styling, and even its location within the DisneyStore was intended to mesh her in with the others. Some merchandise was staged with the other Princesses and others were staged separately, but always next to the other Princess merchandise. We were supposed to push her as a new Princess.

Rapunzel will probably be included if she continues to sell well. Event hough there are others, the big focus of the lines is on predominately on Cinderella, Belle, Ariel and sometimes Aurora.

Pocahontas can at least be seen as analogous to a princess, being the daughter of the chief.

True, but then again chiefs used to have mutiple wives and women were not seen as "royalty" so to speak in their tribes, so it would not be likely that any of their daughters would be seen as "princesses".
