Off the beaten path...

We are going to Disney for a "last blast" before our annual passes expire in March and we're trying to do things we haven't done already. For example, here are some of the things we have planned for this trip.

- Cirque du Soliel
- Princess Tea Party
- DisneyQuest
- Dinner/Lunch at the "cool" restaurants (Whispering Canyon Cafe', Prime Time 50's Cafe, Sci Fi Dine In, California Grill, etc.)
- Neverland Club
- Campfire at Fort Wilderness
- Electrical Water Pageant

Anyway, I've done a lot of homework to try and make this the "BEST VACATION EVER", but was interested if anyone had any other ideas that I may not have thought of. Doesn't have to be big stuff, just anything that adds to the "magic". My kids are 11 and 7, if that helps...

Thanks.

I have done the campfire, Whispering Canyon Café, Prime Time 50's Café, and the Sci Fi Dine, and they are all great. We try to do all of them every time we go.

We try to add some new "forgotten attractions" each time we go.
Some of my favorite are:

* Horseback Riding at Fort Wilderness

* Mini Golf at Fantasia Gardens

* Boat ride around the Boardwalk/Swan/Dolphin area

* Rent Water Mice from the Contemporary or Fort Wilderness

* Get off the monorail at the Grand Floridian and walk over to the Wedding Chapel. In fact, walk to MANY places instead of taking Disney Transport to see things you've never noticed before!

* Take the boat ride from Downtown Disney to Port Orleans and enjoy those two beautiful resorts.

* Walk from Downtown Disney to Saratoga Springs and check them out.

HAVE FUN!

Oh my gosh, I just looked up what the "Kitchen Sink" was! Wow. Not sure if my kids would like it, but I'm there! :slurp:

Thanks for the ideas.
You'll never finish it with just the 4 of you, but it's fun to try!

Good luck with that! we tried it with 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) and we still couldn't finish it! It was actually cheaper than buying small sundaes for each though.

I'm going to vote for the mini golf and touring the resorts too! :sohappy:

We try to do at least one new thing every trip. If you haven't been to the Hoop Dee Do add that to the list also! Sounds like you have planned a great trip! Have fun and bring us back some pictures!

Even though the min-golf costs a little more than your average place, the theming is incredible. We did WinterSummerland and I was blown away by all the details, especially towards the end when you're in the house. I also believe they offer a discount if you choose to put at both FG and WS. Enjoy!

With the AP you get 50% off mini-golf for you and three guests, so the price won't be so bad for them since they have an AP. I love the winter side.

(Sighing loudly and feeling very bad for myself) My passes expire in April. I feel your pain about that "last trip". We went in February for our "last time" and we may go again, even though I said we wouldn't.

Have fun!!! I'm so jealous!!!!

We also try new things each trip. Some of our favorites have been mini-golf at Winter Summerland, Illumination Cruise, Carriage ride, boat rentals & trying new restaurants. Our next trip we are going to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour since my daughter is now 16. Although you kids aren't old enough for Keys to the Kingdom, there are other tours that you could look into.

I agree with the others about Winter Summerland. We do it every trip.
Consider maybe the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at the Polynesian.
Rent a patio boat and go around Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon.
Go over to the AKL for dinner at Boma and view the animal feeding around 6:00 PM. Dinner at Rose and Crown in time to view Illuminations.
One of the park tours.
Surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon.
Rent Jet skis at the Contemporary
Fishing excursion
Check out the Boardwalk area

Some of the new things we are doing this trip:

Pirate Cruise for kids (ages 4-10)
Eating at some of the Deluxe Resorts & we can also walk around them (AKL, Poly, WL)
Mini Golf @ Fantasia Gardens
Disney Quest
If they have it, story around the firepit at AKL
Just riding around on the Monorail, the different loops.....see if we can ride up front during a slower time.
Find some of the "hidden treasures":talking trashcans/water fountains, Singing in the Rain Umbrella @ MGM, watch Sword in the Stone Ceremony at MK, hopefully see DeVine at AK, etc
Watch more of the performers at World Showcase
Enjoy the entertainers at Boardwalk at night

Boy, I'm really getting excited about our upcoming trip!! :D

Enjoy your trip!

I will also recommend the Winter/Summerland mini-golf. We've done both and have enjoyed it.

Restaurants that are off the beaten path: lunch at Japan in EPCOT. Lunch is less expensive than dinner. You may end up sitting with people you don't know, but the chefs prepare the food in front of you and it's very very good, of course.

I would also recommend dinner at Jiko in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's pretty pricey, but the service is the best in all of WDW. Ask Jeremy about South African wines, and my favorite server is Michelle. She always remembers which wine my wife drinks and which meal my daughter likes. (We only go about twice a year, but she remembers every time!) If you have to wait to be seated, you can go out back and look at the giraffes. It's a GREAT experience.

Somebody mentioned taking a tour. May I recommend the Segway tour at EPCOT? It's about 2 hours. The first hour is training and practice indoors. Then you get to go outside and ride the Segway around the World Showcase. If you take the first tour of the day, it's better b/c you ride before anybody else is allowed in. So you a little more freedom of movement. The tour price also includes a free pin.

If I think of any others, I'll add them. I don't get down there until April. (Flower and Garden Festival for a week and then CRUISING!! :sohappy: )

Ok, a couple more restaurant possibilites. :)

On our last visit we went to two new places and enjoyed them both. Consider the Fresh Mediterranean Market in the Dolphin resort. It's a breakfast or lunch buffet and we just loved it. The food was interesting and a little different, but not "weird", if you know what I mean. They serve sangria to keep with the mood. The restaurant itself is very attractive as well.

The other one I'll mention is Olivia's Cafe at Old Key West. Maybe it was just me, but I absolutely LOVED it. The food was about what you'd expect, but I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. It is definitely not the spot for a quiet romantic dinner, and it is probably a little high-priced for the style of food. But the whole time, I just sat there, looked around and kept saying, "I love this place."

Have a great time. My daughter and I have been counting down the weeks since Thanksgiving.
