Off the Beaten Path

We need time for things to happen.
Hey All -

Going on our yearly trip to WDW this coming May.

We're definitely planners and park commandos.

The last few years we've been taking on a little bit of the stop (well not completely stopping but you know...)and smell the roses approach.

So I was thinking we may want to take in some "shows" like Festival of the Lion King
Or maybe new things like Sum of all Thrills at Innoventions..
or some things along those lines.

So I'm looking for peoples thoughts and ideas of things to do that aren't exactly attractions or rides but things that I may miss that are off the beaten path.

Exploring the stores is interesting because they often put detail that others don't notice in them. Now what I mean is that people go in there to buy, but go in them to look at the hidden things and architecture. Also try to find the hidden walkways and seating areas that most people don't notice(I think this is what you were talking about that you do, but there's always a lot of extra). As for things off the beaten path maybe new there is the resorts. The resorts are very themed and exploring them could be new. I know this may be different but it's true, and I know you have park tickets, but you could still take time out.

Yes this is the kind of things that I'm looking for --Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I do love people watching
and I have done a little resort hopping as well - maybe I'll take it up a notch this year...:D

Some things I enjoy to unwind a bit and take a rest are checking out the displays in the Bijutsu-kan Gallery in Japan, wandering around the paths in Japan an looking at the Bonsai art, Walking the paths of Discovery Bay near the Tree of Life, Taking in the displays at One Mans Dreams or the ones once you exit the trams on the Backlot Tour, or a leisurely stroll around the Boardwalk and Cresent Lake.

On our last trip our daughter fell asleep in her stroller after the 3pm parade in MK. We sat at a table and chairs on the side street of MSUSA that is still open. When going toward the castle it is on your right about half way up the street. You can hear someone giving piano or voice lessons (can't remember) in one of the second floors. It is really quiet and you can see busy Main Street just a few feet away, but you can enjoy a few minutes away from the masses and noise. Daughter took a one hour nap and we were all ready to go after that. It was great!

Sum of All Thrills is fantastic!

A true hidden gem. Very short line, fun designing your ride and the ride [though about as long as RnRC] was a real thrill [pun intended].

Sit on a bench in a park for 30 minutes.
You never know what you're going to see.

:)

I do this while my hubby and daughter ride RnRC and Mission:Space. It's so much fun. You are right you just never know what you will see. And of course sometimes I sit and laugh and people are actually looking me and I look like a dork laughing to myself.

This is a good idea. You can take pictures of the statues and some of the displays are wonderful. I'm a big picture taker, my family makes fun of me but I tell you they are glad they have them to look at when they are jonesing for Disney.

I love to watch the JAMMitors at EPCOT. They usually perform near Innoventions- on the side of Electric Umbrella. They are hysterical and awesome! Check your guide times.......they're great performers. I especially loved seeing their performance during the Flower and Garden Festival.

Animal Kingdom - find "De-Vine", very cool and interesting to watch
Epcot - go to Japan and watch "Mayoku" (sp.) she makes animals out of candy and gives it out to kids. Also in Epcot, go in the morning when WS opens, go to France, get coffee and pastery and sit outside at one of the tables - feels like you are in France - not Disneyworld!
MK - go to the barber shop when they sing - very good
Visit the Delux resorts - each a different theme and pretty neat to see what they do with each place

Festival of the Lion King is a great show, we usually check it out every other trip, one year our kids were selected to be part of the pre-show, pretty cool

Also the phone boots within the Magic Kingdom are pretty fun, One is in Tommorowland, the conversation is pretty funny, I havent been able to find the other one that is in a gift shop yet

Can anyone offer me some help? Thanks
