Off-Site or On-Site?

on site The first time we went to Disney World we stayed off site on Howard Johnson Main Gate East. We woke up with coach roaches all over the place the day before we were to leave. The staff didn't care so we went home a day early. You got to pay for room cleaning each day even if you don't have house keeping clean your room that day. If you use the bus service at your hotel you have to leave when early because buses off site only pick up at certain times. The second time we went to Disney we stayed on site at Port Orleans Riverside. It was nice and quit and clean. The Magic hours are great. Buses all day. Dining plan you can get on site. Plus more.

Have stayed on sight 9 times and off sight twice and will be off site in May for our one day MK adventure. On site is wonderful and we have had great time in the values, mods and 1x in family suites at ASMu. However our two off sight visits were great too, we drive down so hotel shuttles are no problem and many are very close to property with lovely pools. We have 4 kids:9,8, 4 and 2 and the Homewood Suites with two rooms, free wi fi, free Breakfest and Free Dinner the night we arrive was a no brainier. We are saving about 300.00 on one night vs on site WDw at the end of May. What off site hotel did you choose? Just curious...with our 4th we can't stay in Values any longer and even the Mods feel small and only have one bathroom. Our fifth is due in September so suites are the only way to go for us now. I have been checking out more and more off site hotels in the area.

Have you tried a house or villa? I have had a couple of wonderful experiences with award pool homes! Booked a 4br 3bath condo for June at $100 per night!

We personally have chosen to stay offsite. Not that we wouldn't like an onsite experience, but money is tight with planning a wedding and so forth. And for $50 per night for both of us it just makes sense. In our currency that's just over £25 it would cost me more to stay in my local travelodge. Plus I don't feel as though we are losing out on any Disney magic at all. Our hotel even has the Disney park channel loop included. For us we would rather be able to enjoy the magic on a budget than go all out and compromise our own magical day back home.

Catch the earliest bus so you make it to the parks for rope drop! Have a magical time! A lot of people prefer to stay on sight but with my kids I can get a condo with a kitchen for less than a value per night so it doubles the legnth of my trip. Do what's right for you and your budget!:)

Thank you, fiancé has a car so we are driving everywhere. Rope drop is a must for me, especially MK, so I will be dragging his butt out of bed for those!! (I mean I am not a morning person but he is something else!) plus we get the excitement of driving under the entrance every morning and evening!

Driving under the sign every morning is the best feeling in the world!

Onsite definately. The benefits of early morning or late evening hours is great. Plus the ability to jump on a bus, boat, or monorail overpowers the stress of parking and having to get back to your car at the end of the day is invaluable. You really can relax and if you need just head back to your resort and go back to the park later in the evening.

We're wondering the same thing right now about onsite v. offsite. We have the opportunity to rent a 3 bed, 2 bath house with a pool. We have a family of 5 and I'm worried about us all fitting in a standard hotel room, with a crib mind you. The kids have never been to DW so I think they will be happy just going, and they love swimming so I think having our own pool will be a bonus for them as well. We will still do character dining and all but can then cook some meals at home as well. It's going to save us at least $1000 since we were going to stay at Port Orleans to get a little bit bigger of a room since there are five of us. We are driving so we don't have to worry about transportation.

My getting a condo off sight turned a 5 day vacation into one with 10 park days and an additional day for DTD! If you stay off sight look for discounted tickets, I got mine at AAA saved enough to pay for this years membership and you get preferred parking!

I've said it before, but once you try an offsite rental house, you'll never want to waste your money on a hotel room again!

The rental is from someone that works with my brother-in-law. He lives in the house half the year and rents it out the other half. There was over 100 very positive comments on the site where it's listed. We also know someone else who has rented the house and said it was an amazing experience.

Most definitely on-site. I have stayed on-site 3 times and off-site several times as well. On-site will save you money. You can take advantage of Disney's Magical Express which picks you up and drops you off at the airport, Extra Magic Hours for a different park each day if you are a resort guest, and many other perks. Plus if you have kids the Value Resorts are very kid friendly and provide a fantastic environment. Disney does their best to provide first-class service with everything and what better way to experience it than on-site at a Disney Resort!
