Oct 1 40th Merchandise

Ok so I heard/know there was a ton of confusion yesterday at the park for the special 40th merchandise being sold. The Diamond Horseshoe was crazy! Nobody knew what line to wait in and I was told while waiting in line that they sold out of shirts... but then when I got inside they "all of the sudden" Had shirts... What I do not know is if those shirts were the, so called, one day limited edition? They were black for men and white with a gold castle for women? If so where those the only "one day limited edition" shirts?

I also heard that some guests got to the park, somehow, at 5am and were able to get wrist bands for something... I think pins? and also got to snatch up other merchandise before anyone else? If true then how did these guests get in the park that early? and what exactly were they able to get? Or what were they after?

I was able to get a few copies of the park maps, a button (not pin), signed painting of the castle by Noah, Black mens T shirt, and a 40th Iphone case.
I do wonder if the 40th Iphone case will be sold park wide from now on? Or if it is a rare thing? Same goes for the Ts?

All in all it was an Awesome day! :-)

After a NOT SO HAPPY HALLOWEEN PARTY on Friday night, Saturday was equally UNDERWHELMING.
Indeed, many people parked at the Contemporary and walked over to get a wristband for the 40th pin. There were many people also leaving the park around 7 with bags full of something.
What a crappy thing to do to the guests who came for the 40th and got up really early expecting to at least have the chance for a pin or something only to find out that you had to have gotten a wristband for the opportunity to stand in yet another line to get that pin!!!!

We left the park by 10 a.m. and are not going back. Will spend the rest of the vaca at the pool and maybe the other parks, and after several years of booking 2 a year, we will spend some time elsewhere for a few years.

The wrist bands didn't run out until shortly after 7am.

Some people (*cough cough*) arrived more than early enough to get a wristband but were told by cast members that everyone in line by a certain time would be let into the park early and to only grab a wristband if they wanted to buy the merchandise. The story changed when the event entrance started letting people in around 7:30 am and those without a wristband (some of whom had been there much longer than most of those with them) were asked to kindly get lost. [snip]

Bad start to a day that happily turned out decent in spite of continuing misinformation and obvious unpreparedness.

EDIT: Removed some remarks I made in poor judgement. Complaints about specific cast members belong on feedback cards in City Hall, not online forums. I hope no one saw that. :lookaroun

I got to the TTC at 5:30am and there were about 30 people waiting for the gates to the monorail/boat to open up. We were then told the monorail wouldn't be operational until 7am and we could either wait or walk to the Magic Kingdom. A large group of us walked to the MK because per the webpage, we had to be there at 6am to get a wristband. I don't have a link to the Pin site, but they have a list on there of what was available to the wristband holders. It was all of the Limited Edition pins plus there were a few Vinylmations, and all of the pins were limited to 2 per person. They let us all in the park at 7:45, and we were allowed to either line up on the Liberty Square bridge or walk around the hub. I ended up waiting in the line for the Castle presentation, and was able to get a center view about 5 people deep.

I was in the 'C' group of wristbands, which were allowed to shop from 10:00 to 11:00am. It was confusing at first, because there were three lines coming out of the Diamond Horseshoe - one was the wristband line (which I thankfully found in time), another was for the general public merch and the third was a standby line (thats what I was told). I ended up getting the "I Was There Pin" and a couple of opening day attraction pins. Its kind of funny, though, because I asked for 20K and Mr Toad pins (which were opening day attractions) and was told they didn't make any. I won't even mention the CMs "guess" as to why they didn't make either of the pins. After the pin shopping, we were allowed to shop in the public Diamond Horseshoe area which had paintings, a cell phone cover and many other items. They also had Room For 1 More merch available in this area. Now as far as the T-Shirt, they were out of the Mens T by 10:45ish when I was in there.

I definitely had a great time, and the stage presentation was excellent! I just hope next time they are fully prepared for an event of this magnitude.

PS: TDO, where's my 5k medal for having to walk/run to the MK? :ROFLOL:

The wrist band information provided is wrong. If you had a wrist band you were promised the two pins. We waited in line four and a half hours without a wristband and got almost everything, including pins.

We were only allowed to purchase 2 of each pin per person with the wristband. In talking with someone, I heard that they didn't sell out of all of the pins, and whatever was leftover would be sold in the park today - take that with a grain of salt though, as it was from another guest.

So basically the whole getting to the park super early and the wrist band/pin thing was a "secret" for collectors? I do not recall it being mentioned anywhere on this site before hand

Does anyone know if the Iphone covers will be sold parkwide from now on? Have a few friends that want one.

I never heard about it either. Not that I would have been to MK at 5:30 to get pins anyway, but I'm not a big pin collector.

I looked at the iPhone case at one point and I think I remember seeing a 'limited edition' sticker on it. What that means though, I'm not really sure.

We were happy to get one of each shirt and a set of the metal signs, but I think the whole thing was way too confusing. I also think they severely underestimated the crowds. We planned on getting there 'early' which for us meant about 8:30. We ended up getting there a few minutes after 8:30 and couldn't even make it through bag check there were so many people. Stupid us!

The wristbands were announced on the official pin site here -> http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/event?id=59197. However, I think it came out on Wednesday or Thursday. Saw it on another site on 9/29. It wasn't really announced or publicized.

The shirts were also available online for the entire weekend. I think they put them up for sale on Friday, and were still selling them Sunday. They took them off at 11:59 PM EST yesterday I believe.

They have been selling iPhone covers for a while now. As to whether they will have the ones seen on Saturday will depend on exactly how it was phrased. "Limited Edition" means they made one batch, and will sell them til they run out. The same way some of the Room For 1 More merch ended up for sale on Saturday. "Limited Release" means we will make a few batches, and keep selling them, but only for a a limited time. "Open edition" or "General release" means as long as they keep selling we will keep making them. Think LE = 500, LR = 20,000, OE = 200,000. Those numbers are obviously made up, but something in those lines. Vinylmation is a good example of this. The 9" LE are made in a set number, the 3" blind box is made with the expectation of being sold for a certain period of time, and the 3" box you can see is gonna keep being made it they are selling.

The 40th Anniversary iPhone covers are a limited edition of 1,971. Once they sell out, that's it. I bought one, but I think I'm going to keep it in the packaging. :)

I'm sorry you guys felt this way. But it was announced both on here on and on the official Disney World Events page that they were going to be doing wrist bands for the 40th Merchandise, including what time they were going to start doing so and how exactly they were going to work. Events like this one need just as much planning as any other part of a Disney trip. And everyone should know by now how crazy people get when it comes to limited edition merchandise.

dreamfinder who posted right before this has the link in his post. Lesson learned is to do your due diligence in research and ask questions on here when you're going to attend an event like this.

I had family that was down there for the W&D Half Marathon (they didn't even know it was the 40th til I told them a week before) but I kept updating them with info that kept gradually appearing online via email and SMS during their trip. WDW is getting better with regards to merch releases, but still have a bit to learn from DLR. I imagine by the time the 50th rolls around WDW will finally realize that they have a fan base just like DLR that will come to spend wads of cash on LE merch and get it down to a science.

They did make big improvements over the Epcot 25th fiasco, but still under estimated the demand for this.

We were guest at the Contemporary so its a simply 10 to 15 minute walk....

.

It was mentioned officially on two of the Disney web sites......

As for those who said people must have parked at the CR and walked over...I dont think so! Security had the "restricted due to high attendance" signs up at the booth Friday and Saturday.....

We left our room at 5:30am arrived at the MK line at 5:45.....were assigned wristband group B..... did not exit the line with our merchandise until sometime between 10am and 11am.....missing both the parade and the castle show! :( Oh well... we saw it on youtube anyways lol

Was a long exausting BUT Awesome weekend... the 2 hour drive home yesterday was seeming like 22 hours! :) Worth it though to have been there......

My only concern is future Iphone dimensions.... And Iphone 5 is due out soon :-/

The shirts were also in the Emporium at rope drop. But not for long ;-)

IPhone 4 cases were still available for days after.
