O Canada and China

Looking forward to these new movies.

Sad to see the old ones go but when it comes to showcasing current aspects of the countries, it's always hard when the footage is so clearly dated.

I have mixed feelings about Impressions de France for this reason. It's beautiful but most of the adults shown in that footage could be dead now from old age. A lot of the children are probably approaching retirement. Obviously, the aspects meant to show a contemporary people - like the French Riviera scene - are doing anything but.

Except the US kind of has a thing about debate and discussion surrounding its own missteps and things we aren't proud of (not that every person here likes it that way). China - at least their government - seems to have less absolutely no tolerance for that from a western view.

Fair point. Perhaps the city can be shown in such a way to show the architecture and history and avoid the more... delicate areas. Hall of Presidents has shown a show script can be carefully and cleverly written. I’d have thought Hong Kong (the city) is too big a place to ignore. Especially since it’s the people, not the city that may be a minefield.

The logic of Totalitarian Communist governments cant be understood by us...For almost 20 years, the North Koreans would photoshop the Ryungong hotel out of pictures of Pyongyang, despite the fact everybody knew it was there, it was a giant 100 story abandoned/unstable pyramid and had no windows in the middle of town.

When people started getting pictures out, their solution was not to finish the building or demolish it, they just put windows on it to make it look finished...again, despite everyone knowing its a rotted and vacant husk.

China will either ignore Hong Kong in official communication or act as if its a happy place that loves the mainland and is fully integrated.

One country is the most important message. The SARs are not distinct. I'm sure the Party would also want Taiwan included in the film.

Funny, D23 confirmed for January 2020:
  • the new film for Canada
  • Awesome Planet
  • BatB sing-along

But the new China film, though announced, did not get a debut date.

Also, though we know a new film for Impressions de France is in the works according to @marni1971, there was no announcement about the replacement IdF film.
