well i felt like a trader yesterday, from the minute we walk through the park, we went to six flags yesterday. not because i wanted to it was kinda a family thing, well the whole day i think both my husband and i compared this and that to disney , lines like you would not believe ,you have to pay if you want to get what is like a fast pass , the food sucked the bathrooms were filthy and broken down and so very crowed as well as the change rooms... the characters ...my poor daughter (who is a peanut)was knocked out of the way because of no organization and no lines just a rush of little rugrats.. my daughter wanted nothing to do with them , then she started crying that she wanted her mickey mouse, i had to explain that pretty soon we'll see him, and after a couple of minutes she warmed up to going to see the characters. then every couple of minutes over the loud speakers we'd hear like a twinkling sound (sounded very disneyish) with what seemed like their tip of the moment
.the whole time i did feel like i was betraying disney. and to top it off, they sell turkey legs there too!! no i did'nt have one i know it probably sucked like the rest of the food, i'll have mine in disney world in november. i know i can't be the only one who feels this way when going to another park. and there is a difference... six flags is definatly an amusement park so not disney world ...
the only good thing my little girl had a good time which is all that matters..and for her to start crying about her mickey she is a true disney fan..even at 4..lol sorry guys i just had to vent......

I agree with you all the way. Six Flags is just so low class than disney. But thats a different mission they have. They arent trained people and they really dont try to strive their best to go out of their way to make sure every guest is having fun. I usually have fun their, but Im never going to ask for season passes again. Ill be begging my dad to give us AP again when Ours are done next year. But Im never going to SF again.

WDW is an all in all vacation destination. Six flags is just local to many people around the country and doesnt really have many family entertainment atmospheric stuff. Theirs no magical atmosphere that absolutley puts you at peace. Its just cheap. :snore:

Always immitated, never replicated... Why do people feel betrayal or that there is some obligation to Disney to never visit any other parks out there? Just curious. Going to Six Flags or Universal is not like cheating on your spouse.

My family and I went to a local amusement park today. Had a blast. Of course it was nothing compared to Disney as we too compared our experiences to those at WDW. Just remember, you're comparing a go-cart to a BMW. :animwink:

Thanks for the vent dixiegirl.

I used to work at Six Flags (gasp, I know) and I can tell you that not a lot of people gave a rats @$$ about making guests happy. (Some do, I'll admit. My brother is one of them)

"They arent trained people and they really dont try to strive their best to go out of their way to make sure every guest is having fun."
The-reason: We are trained in our rides though, they just don't put much of an emphasis on guest satisfaction in those training sessions.

However, working there was absolutely miserable for those of us who worked there and the company did nothing to help make it better, therefore we really didn't care. For example I worked at a rapids-type ride and we had to sit out at something called post which is basically like a lifegaurd stand but its purpose is to make sure people weren't standing up on the ride. I can honestly tell you that I had to sit out there for anywhere from 2 and a half to 4 hours bored outta my mind. Just watching. And don't get me started on those days when I had to go to the bathroom badly after having to drink like 20 cups of water because it's so darn hot outside! No one could come out to relieve me b/c we didn't have enough staff to do so. I almost had to break down and go in the bushes! That's how bad it was. Most of the time though, all I could think of was how many hours is it until I get to go home. That shouldn't have been what I was thinking, I know, but I was absolutely miserable.

Amen!!!

I definitely hear what you guys are saying and it's nice to know that i'm not the only weirdo that thinks in this manner. Firstly, I myself do not consider it a crime to have a good time elsewhere in a non-disney vicinity. However, as the disney dork that I am, nothing EVER compares. I can have a great time, but not a magical time. Sure, the rides tend to be better and more geared towards someone my age(18), but its apparent that that's not what Disney is all about, and any regular on this message board knows that. WDW is a world of its own, no pun intended. Nowherelse has an amusement/theme park accomplished such a feat to the extent that Disney has. In my eyes, it's all about the atmosphere, the memories, and the magic. And in that case, no park can even dream to replicate such arguable perfection.

Hey, I go to all sorts of parks. I know before going that it's not Disney, or even Universal for that matter. I'm satisfied because I know what I'm getting into. That's what makes Orlando special for me, because I know there's no place like it in the world.

That is so funny because I was thinking the same thing when I went to Six Flags Great America two weekends ago!!! I was also dragged there by family. I also could not believe how not Disney it is: the food, cleanliness, people (those that go and work there), the rides, the lines. And all that was so expensive with the food and tickets.

There's just nothing like Disney in this whole world.

3 more days!!!! :sohappy:

I do the comparing to if I go to a non-Disney park. It just gives me quite a chuckle to see certain things that these parks try to immitate from WDW and how they can't do it like Disney and they probably try so hard, man I just have a good laugh about that.

I live in Pennsylvania, so I often go to amusement parks around here. I have been to 2 Six Flags, and I always compaired them to a McDonalds. There are a bunch of them, and they all have the same thing. I have good memories from them, because I knew what they would be like. Cedar Point is my favorite amusement park. (not be confused with my favorite resort...any guesses on what that is?) It is very clean, and the staff is very friendly to a point where that almost reminds me of Disney.

I know what your talking about. In April my band went up to Gatlinburg Tennessee. Well on the way back to Florida we stopped at Six Flags over Georgia for the day. :hurl: :hurl: :brick: :dazzle: :hammer: I spent the whole time we were there comparing it to WDW,everyone kept asking me why i didnt like it. I repeatedly pointed out how filthy it was, paint peeled everywhere, spiderwebs, just a very trashy look. And the fact that most of the stuff there was coasters, no real family rides and cheap attempts to copy Disney. When you enter, you walk into a pathetic attempt to copy Main Street USA. It was just a nightmare. The only thing that i really liked was Ninja and i did buy a shirt and a mug. But still Six Flags has never been and will never be anywhere close to the quality and standards of Disney.

I worked at 6 flags 20 years ago in Atlanta. I went two years ago with my family (we now live in the area) and could not belive the changes. It seemed that none of the employees cared about doing anything but collecting a pay check. They seemed to have no pride in what they were doing, or what the park looked like. The only thing I like about the flags are the rollercosters, but they are not worth the rest of the employees poor attitude, dirty and worn out park. I was talking to a CM at the MK last June and she said that she had been to Six flags and was very unimpressed, I told her that it had really gone down hill from years ago.

I didn't realize until I read this thread that I do the same thing, comparing to WDW. On my last visit (a few weeks back) to Busch Gardens Tampa, I was amazed at how there was no sense of urgency in starting a ride. For example, at Rockin R, you visually see the cm's hustle to get a full car out, only to see an empty one come around the bend. It is amazing how fast and efficient they are! At Busch Gardens, it was taking the employees a much longer time to check for seat belts. We would watch the employees carry on personal conversations while doing this, only to further delay the start of the ride. Now I know that they are hot and dealing with some wild and unruly guests at times, but aren't they paid to work, not socialize? We saw this on two rides there, the Gwazi and Montu. They were only running one train, and we could see another one not in use. That also made for a longer wait. :hammer: Just something I noticed.

Six Flags tried to be like Disney when the first one opened, and then again in the early 90's. However, they have seemed to have completly abandoned theme. *looks at the Superman Flying Coaster compared to Superman at Magic Mountain*

Another example would be the batman rides.

I have to agree with you guys too.

My cousin works for Turner here in Atlanta and they had an employees night a couple of Fridays ago. We spent the whole time comparing it to Disney and saying how Disney wouldn't allow it at their theme parks this way. It was very nasty, half of the rides kept breaking down and the way the employees dressed was pitiful. They all had the same uniform which is fine but most of the guys had their khaki pants hanging around their knees. It was kinda funny seeing how they tried to imitate Disney though. On the carnival style games they had imitation poohs and tiggers. :hammer: We found that quite hilarious(sp?)

There's no place like Disney!
