Not So Magic Kingdom question

last year we actually had to watch the NYE fireworks from there... it was one of those things were we were standing on Main St. and then the next thing we knew we were backstage- sometimes you kind of get stuck in the herd and can't do anything about it!

Anyways, the part that really kills me is this- being a CM I know cameras are not allowed back stage. But, just out of curiosity I took out my camera to take a picture of the fireworks, and sure enough a CM told me I couldn't take pictures! I'm sorry, but if they are going to make guests sit back there to watch fireworks, I don't think they should be able to tell them they're not allowed to take pictures!!

As someone mentioned before, this may be a combination of convenience as well as safety. Once the park reaches a certain capacity they may be required to provide another exit .. dunno .. just a thought. Either way, as long as it's optional it seems okay with me

Park 1 is a relatively tame backstage area, not going to see much even without the wheeled planter barricades. But it does go against MSUSA's design purpose. It was open every night for the past week it seems. IMO it was nice because you are not required to go that direction and that holidays are mostly people who have been to MK many times and many even live in the area.

Besides, it is closed prior to Tink's landing back there.

I've heard a rumor that this is the same reason why the Space Mountain que no longer uses all of the turnstiles inside. Apparently the main show building doesn't have enough fire exits to meet code, so they are no longer allowed to fill it with people like they used to.

I have always wondered about this! I can remember as a kid being queued in that building for hours. No complaints- we were out of the sun!

Both of the times I went to MK during Spring Break they used the backstage escape route too.

Main Street is just completely impassable during parade times. I don't mind going backstage and seeing the less-than-magical path, but I can certainly understand how it could negatively impact a 1st timers impression of Disney.

If I am not mistaken there is a similar backstage pathway at MGM/DHS to get you from Fantasmic! to the main entrance too. During normal crowd times they only take you halfway down Sunset blvd. with it, but during Spring Break/Xmas/etc they actually let you continue all the way to Hollywood Blvd by the Stroller/wheelchair rental on it. (Or I could totally be making that up and having a Disney experience hallucination?)

No, I have used this route a few times at DHS. They usually do this for the last showing of Fantasmic, because it funnels everyone to the front so it's 100x easier to clear the park lol. If not, people would croud Hollywood Blvd shops and those poor CMs would never get to leave :D

I've been wondering about this for years now. I'm glad to finally hear a good reason for it lol. It's such a waste of space though, but it does help the line move a little quicker.
