Not Another Space Mountain Thread

Okay, so I lied. This is another Space Mountain thread.

I had to do it after I realized that the clock had ticked in terms of HOURS while reading through HUNDREDS of posts scathered over DOZENS of SM threads in my pathetic attempt to get FACTS about the rehab. Now I am starting this one to weed through the b*** $*!* and get the hard-core facts behind this desperately needed and long-over-due project.

Without further ado, here's the details that I know (and confirmed)...

___ Most of the track is being replaced.

___ New enclosure will be built similiar to that of DL's.

___ New ride vehicles.

Rumored and missing details...

___ Sound track? Screamscape says 'yes', but Screamscape isn't exactly the most reliable source out there. Can anyone confirm or kill this rumor?

___ New effects? As in will there be any? And if so, details, details, details!

___ Other missing details.

___ More missing details.

___ Missing details not mentioned in 'other' or 'more' missing details.

___ TTA rehab: DETAILS?

Thank you for visting 'Not Another Space Mountain Thread', the new leaner Space Mountain thread dedicated to the pursuit of quality and quantity facts concerning the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain refurb. All others will be dealt with (in 3D) through potentially threatening-looking Pixar animated enforcer-types.

Why does everyone just LOVE to jump on the bash Screamscape bandwagon? It annoys me that Lance feels the need to inject his personal opinions into so many updates, but in terms of crediblity, his info is usually very close to spot on. Definitely more so than any other collection of rumor sites on the net.

The problem with screamscape isn't that the guy who runs it is a bad guy, but its just a rumor site. He basically prints any rumor related to any website that gets sent his way. That's fine and it makes for fun discussion. There's a place for a site like that out there. Just take everything he says with a grain of salt until confirmed somewhere else since who knows where his rumors are coming from.

PeterAlt - I know it may fit under one of the 'Other Missing Details or More Missing Details' sections, but how about 'Schedule' for a topic?

Many of us are making a trip this year and would like to know how soon we can expect SM to go down (if it hasn't already) and then projected (yeah, I know useless) time SM should be back up and running.

I dunno, Space Mountain is a pretty big deal for us Disney geeks. I think people would be excited and chatty about it no matter what
I tend to agree. While WDW could use a boost in the innovation/maintenance department, I think that a seemingly overabundance of threads on the topic of a Space Mountain refurb would exist regardless of other projects. Space Mountain is an absolute WDW classic and garners a great deal of attention from fans as a result.

You know the best thing about the Internet? You don't HAVE to read every single webpage or thread therein. Deal with it.

Bring on the SM threads

SM is going down in April. It has been announced to be re-opened in November, but none of the insiders believe it'll be open before next year.

Not with Disney rumors, he isn't.

Not with Disney rumors, he isn't.

Are you going to cite examples? Or should I just blindly accept your word?

Look, I realize that defending Lance is not the popular opinion here, but he IS to be trusted. Everyone makes mistakes. He's only as good as what he's told, as *he* is not the source of the information. But more than a decade has proven that what he posts is typically quite accurate, like it or not.

Just go through the old rumors and see how many never happened.

A site like Screamscape isn't (and isn't meant to be) a totally accurate, fact reporting site.
It's more like a clearing house for rumors. Lance basically just says "If you hear something, let me know about it." That opens him up for a ton of information, some accurate, much not. He posts it all and lets the chips fall where they may.
Nothing wrong with that.
Something comes up false, not his fault.

Apparently we need at least half a dozen threads to tell people this . I vote for a sticky to be made if one hasn't already been for this topic.

Exactly - It's not small ride and we were (are?) hoping that it's not a 'small' rehab either.

If something on the scale of th DCA re-make were happening in WDW, then I'm SM would haven't been one of the main topics of discussion.

Not sure how interested *I* would be in 5 threads about America Idol though... LOL

kcnole - thanks for that bit of info. While I truly enjoy Space Mtn, it is my wife's absolute favorite ride in WDW. We're going for a week in November (7-14) so I guess while there is a chance it'll be back up in time for our trip, it's highly unlikely.

Well, we also are planning another trip for the following Feb/Mar timeframe and then again in October of 2010. Hopefully that'll make up for it if she misses out on her favorite in November.
