Love the film. And the village. They really need to put an 'outdoor' cafe next to that village. It's a beautiful view.

We rarely watch the film, unless we have time to kill. The other thing I try to avoid there is the perfume shop.. Instant migraine for me.. They try to block the exits so you are forced to walk through that part of the store. Not me!

As a side note, not sure if anyone has noticed this, but in the village at the end there's a sign that reads "Jotul". This is a Norweigan heating/fireplace maker, or something to that effect. Anyways, every day on the way to work, I pass a shop that has the exact same "Jotul" sign outside. Makes me lonesome for Epcot.:(

Here it is:

I always skip the movie, so my answer would be no.

I would go see it if they updated it (how hard is it to update a 5min film that isn't in Circle Vision or any other extra special film format?).

I'm sure once the Norway film closes and the theater is turned into extra retail space EVERYONE will be talking about how awesome the film was. That's the way most things at EPCOT are; ignored into extinction, then canonized on the internet.

That would mean more Norwegian girls to work the new retail space.

Something you will never see me complain about!

Another nice thing about retail space is that you are allowed to walk out as soon as you want to.

Speaking of which, they could just continue the theming of the Norwegian coastal village unload area a little further. It's pretty charming, and the only reason I dislike having to stare at all the fake store windows is that you're often stuck there for 9 minutes or less while you wait for the theater doors in front of you to open so that you can sprint across the aisles and escape YOUR turn to watch the dumb movie. You could make a smoother transition from the ride unload area to the tourist board info booth/gift shop area if you had all that space to work with AND people would enjoy looking at it more if they didn't feel so trapped there.

I saw it recently for the first time in about 15 years....most of the film isn't really that dated, like Canada and China, they could keep parts of it and just change the obvious stuff, like the mid 80's computers and the extremely dated fashions

Nobody will see me complaining either.

Has anyone ever strolled the store and looked at price tags. I saw a nice sweater in there on my last trip and looked at the tag to see it read close to $400

My mother bought my father a Helly Hanson rainjacket there about a decade ago. I checked the price on Amazon later and it was only a couple bucks above retalil.

I suppose the amount of mark-up varies.

I wish they'd put in a movie-only line. I think Maelstrom is one of EPCOT Center's (yes, I will always call it that) worst attractions. It's tolerable up to a point, but that ending is absolutely lame. In a world where there's too much dependence on oil, is a giant oil rig really the best way to summarize modern Norway? I'm just glad "The Spirit of Norway" follows it, or I'd be really disgusted with Disney for not giving the Norwegians a better representation of their country. At least the movie gives the whole thing some class.

I've always thought it was an awesome ending. It shows how despite modern technology and the needs of an industrialized world, Norwegians still honor their fathers' love of the sea and taste for danger. Offshore oil platform work is tremendously demanding and dangerous, arguably as much as the Viking warriors we had just seen as evidence of the Norwegians' adventurous spirit. Best of all the towering, flaming oil rig at night provides an excellent visual and thematic counterpoint to the growling, rampant polar bear seen earlier.

Besides the theme of the ride, it's highly accurate. Oil and gas comprises 50% of Norway's export income and almost a quarter of its GDP.

The thing is, though, these attractions are supposed to make you want to visit these countries. Seeing a big, ugly oil rig spewing fire into the air does not interest me in the slightest. Sorry, I personally don't consider it awesome, adventurous, or visually exciting.

I can honestly, and a bit shamelessly, say I have never seen the film. :lookaroun

It's worth watching at least once. It's not nearly as bad as some say. It is more of a travelogue than anything else, but it's a seated theater and it's only 5 minutes long.

Heck, I'll do anything to bypass it even when attraction is open!
