Non-Standard Celebrations

Our "celebration" for our trip this year is the 8th anniversary of my daughter and I becoming a family via adoption.

I know Disney has the standard buttons for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. but what do they do when you have a more unusual celebration like this? Will we get some sort of button? Will it pretty much just get ignored because it would take more time for CMs to figure out just what our celebration is, instead of just shouting out an easy "Happy Birthday"?

I know when I booked our dining reservations online, I was able to spell out exactly what our celebration was, but when I booked the MYW package online I couldn't - I could select "other", but it never gave me the option to note just what our "other" was exactly. That was disappointing.

They have a button that has a place for you to write in what you are celebrating. You could put something like "anniversary of us offcially becoming a family" or something to that effect. I'm sure if you tell the cm when you check in what you are celebrating, they'll be able to do something. Congrats and have a great time!
I'd also call central reservations and tell them before hand what you're celebrating instead of leaving it up to the computer.

Yep the CMs tend to just give a shout out to the common ones, birthdays, honeymoons, anniversaries etc. I don't think many would be able to read what you have hand written into one of the generic ones and then shout out. You never know though, CMs may surprise you!

Congrats on your anniversary!!! That is the sweetest celebration I can think of. I myself am adopted but I was lucky and thankfuly adopted when I was 6 weeks old. I got the best parents in the world and feel very special everyday that they choose me. Make sure to call Disney directly so they can add in your special celebration! Have a great trip and let us know how it goes!!!

Congratulations! What a wonderful occasion to celebrate. I saw lots of the custom buttons when I was last there with all sorts of great celebrations. I think it was interesting to read what people were celebrating outside of the typical things. Have fun!

How wonderful for you! Have you thought about customizing your own button or shirt for your trip? My son went on Zazzle.com and had buttons made up for our 25th anniversary trip this past June. He's also designed some great shirts and had them printed. :sohappy:

I found a pic of the button on Ebay . . . you see there isn't a whole lot of room to write, but they are so cute.

If you check into DAKL with me, you will get a button, for sure. I raelly doubt that there are many people who leave my station without a button. :D Happy celebrating!

We will be celebrating 10 years since my niece became a part of our family when we are at Disney as well. The night of the "gotcha date" as we call it we asked for someting special at dinner, I"m not sure what they will do but I'm sure they will do something.

We refer to "Gotcha Day" as well, but I have no idea how common that expession is.
