Erika,

Good idea to bump your own thread--very interesting reading. Here's what I like to do:

1. Golf
2. collecting baseball cards
3. internet surfing
4. coaching my daughter's softball team
5. playing with our pet snake and dogs (but not at the same time!:hammer: )

Shameless bump Erika but I won't hold against anyone with a birthday of 7/7.

My hobbies/interests:

1) My "kids" a 5 year old Black (and a little white) DSH named Jaina and our 1 year old champagne mink Tonkinese named Wedge.

2) Movies- specifically DVD's on our widescreen.

3) Reading - Primarily Clancy and Koontz

4) Anything else Star Wars related

5) Assorted games for the PC (primarily FPS).

6) WWII history

Wow, I had fun reading this but the whole dog/crotch thing was a little bit TOO MUCH information for me...:lookaroun
Anyways, on to the answer (in no particular order, mind you!!):

1) Movies - I like movies so much I even work with them! I'm a translator/subtitler for those who didn't know. I also go to the movies almost every weekend and I collect them. I have more than 300 VHS tapes, and now I'm into DVD's. I had to buy Matrix and the Lethal Weapon series again though 'cause of the sumbitc who broke into our house... :brick: He actually CHOSE what movies he was taking!!!

2) My GF - What can I say? Julia is a sweetheart, she's been putting up with me for 2 and a half years and still wanna marry me! :D

3) Reading - Basically comics (Marvel Comics) and books, and those are movie related as well.

4) Games - Video Games and computer games. We HAD an N64 (again, the sumbitc) and we're planning a Gamecube. For the PC I mostly like adventure games. Those first-person shooters I'd rather play on the video-game, I'm not good with the mouse/keyboard interface required nowadays.

5) TV - I love cartoons and sitcoms. Besides Disney ones (D'uh!) I'm into Thundercats, He-Man, Silverhawks, Boomerang, Powerpuff Girls, Scooby-Doo, Jackie Chan Adventures, That 70's and 80's Show, Charmed, Mad About You, Married With Children, Will and Grace, My Wife and Kids, Whose Line is it Anyway.

I guess that's it... I hope nobody fell asleep. Unless you did but you were having sleeping problems. Then I'm glad I could help!

Wow, some people have some really fab interests. Well a brief blurb about me first. I am a University student in Hertfordshire, England about 20 minutes train ride from central London, and I am studying computer science.

My interests are computers and the Internet. Civil Aviation, shopping, eating out, cooking (i work in catering part-time), being with my friends, pubbing and clubbing, (can been seen most Saturday nights in So Ho), I love musical theatre too, was in a musical theatre group until I left for Uni. Around Uni I can be seen flapping around, organising things and been generally involved with stuff, I am an elected officer of our Students' Union.

I think I'm one of the geekiest posters around. While I'm not scouring Disney web sites for the latest news and working at the World, I like to do the following:

1. Computer Enthusiast. I reccently bulit my own computer and I plan to make my old one a "media box" so I can watch movies and such one it. I occassionally do web site stuff, but I'm starting to grow tired of it. I'm really experimenting in converting my entire video tape collection into digital files using only a TV tuner and a cheapy VCR to attain that goal! I also play games every now and then and even have my own digital camera (for some reason, I'm not really using it that much.) Maybe because I'm too lazy to carry it around in the parks.

2. Animation Junkie. Disney or not, I can't get enough of Animation. I used to be shy away from Japenese Animation, but I'm starting to watch it a lot more. Their stuff is absolutely mindblowing. Trust me, its a LOT more that Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z.

Hmmmm, my interests...
-I'm a baker. During the holiday's i bake up a storm! Before Xmas I bake up 5+ types of cookies @ 2 dozen each. I've got the heavy duty mixer and a double oven so I've gotten to be a pro at it :slurp: . I've tried cooking but usually overcook meats and such. I'm constantly worring about poisioning myself (undercooking) , plus I can't handle butchering a fish or chicken.

-Computer Enthusiast(career). I'm into Comp Sci and programming, but I really enjoy working in graphics. I toy with it but I'm not a pro at it. I've yet to learn all the functions of PS. I just poke around looking for right effects  -if they work and make the pic look good, I'll keep it. I'm into PC games too.

-Origami. Yip, origami-get me a square sheet of paper and I'll twist it into any number of things. I'll make ya a rose, crane (made a 1,000 for luck :D ), boxes, swans, lanterns, and more. I enjoy making functional origami. Self-taught

-Ribbon Origami-Chinese version of origami. Grab some gift wrap ribbon and I can twist up a chick, dragon, phoenix, lantern, strawberry, pineapple, and more!

-Foreign language-I've taken spanish and french. I can speak chinese, but can't read or write it. If anything I'd like to expand my horizons and learn Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, and German. Yeah that sounds like a lot

-(digital) photography. Well I have yet to fully understand a f-stop or apertures. So many times I just set it on auto and go running around snapping photos like a tourist. Many of my friends and family compliment me on my photos and I enjoy taking them. Since there's no cost of developing them, its even better. . One of these day's I got to run downtown and take a slew of Chicago pictures!

-travel. Been to many places, US and abroad.

Yes...I'm a dullard. It took me THIS long to pick up on this portion of your original post. :hammer: Sorry, Erika!!

Question...who do you sponsor through? I've been sponsoring a child in Kazakhstan through a non-traditional sponsorship program where you send care packages with clothes, toys & educational supplies (rather than donated funds) to a sponsored child in this specific orphanage. It's been going wonderfully & I am thrilled with it. I'm now looking into Childreach as another possible option. Not quite sure how much I trust these programs & I do like the idea of being able to hand-pick gifts to send to the children as well, so I'm not sure if it's for me. Do you happen to know anything about Childreach? If not, do you mind if I ask for details on the organization(s) you deal with? I'm new to this aspect of sponsorship & I just don't want to screw up in any way. Feel free to PM or email me to avoid a major thread drift if you care to chat at length about it. Thanks a million!!

HI Dawn!

I know exactly the org. you sponsor through. I have thought of doing that one myself! It's a really good program.

I have done CR since 96- I have been very happy with them and my experiences are on my website, which is in my signature. You can send gifts but not as many as you can with your current sponsorship program. I also started this year with AKIN (Adopt a Kid in Need) which is run out of Zambia by American students. All you pay for with that one is school tuition and fees- it's to benefit AIDS orphans. I pay $17 a year for elementary school.

I belong to a Yahoo group for sponsors. The members there belong to every conceivable sponsorship group, including the one you do in K-stan. It's the perfect place to visit if you are considering a second organization. Everyone is really nice and can answer any questions you have.
