Noise complaint help

They have leaf blowers that use battery packs,as I said I know there are disadvantages. My thought was this is Disney and guest satisfaction is important,so something might be done.

How much more are you willing to pay for your resort room if that happens? Should Poly and GF go up to $1100 per night to cover that expense? OKW go up to $700 per night?

The cost of battery ran leaf blowers would be insane. Not even 5 star hotels do that.

Wow, so many posts lately just make me go "WTH?!" The original post wasn't too bad..now it's gone off the deep end.
You are still on Planet Earth when at Disney. Normal things still have to happen on a daily basis. Things that help make the place that we love so 'Magical'.

I know words mean things and perhaps I have different understanding of the definition of landscaping. When I am at home and I sweep my front porch, even if there happen to be leaves on it I consider that sweeping not landscaping,am I not using the word correctly?
"Landscaping" is pretty much anything involved with the maintenance of the exterior of the property, in particular the plants growing on the said property. That includes getting rid of the leaves.

I would argue that electric leaf blowers are quieter and I do know they have there disadvantages.
They are quieter, but they have considerably less power and run time. They work fine for your average homeowner on an average size lawn. Not so much when you are maintaining several acres.

Housekeeping shouldn't do it!!! Daily or not!! There are landscaping companies and landscaping department employees to do that work. A housekeeper with a leaf blower?!?!? Come on now.
I been to motels that are very cheap and the housekeeping staff sweeps outside of the units especially on upper floors.

If you are painting a hotel are you going to use this...

or this....

Sure the roller is quieter and less obtrusive, but it is simply not suited for such a large scale job.

The same principal applies to the blowers.

I have never, ever, never, been to a hotel that sweeps the leaves. Regardless of a Four Seasons, Waldorf, W, or a regular Hilton.
Never.

I've never seen it done at a business, and I've never seen it done at a low, mid, or high rise condominium. I think it is unbelievably tacky and unreasonable to expect landscapers to sweep. I'm sorry, please look at this logically. How long would that take? How many more hours would these people have to work? How inconvenient and needless added difficulty would it be for them?

Think about those answers and then you may (hopefully) change your mindset on this topic.
My mind set on this topic is that from the feed back that I have gotten I am not going to say anything because I don't think it would be useful or effect change and accept things as they are and go enjoy the rest of my day.

Good plan. Maybe you could also ask if they have a fan you can borrow to help drown out the noise. Or maybe you have a smartphone and can download an ap.

Dont know if this would help. I'm a light sleeper and when I'm staying at a resort I bring along foam earplugs that conform to the ear canal which help drown out noise. They may have kid size ear plugs available in the resort store ?

Wow... this is the sad world we live in.. Complaining about lawncare during normal operating business hours.

No pixie dust for this one, they've got work to do.

In 2014, we stayed at Kidani and the lawn crew was planting new shrubs on the savanna. I'm sure I coulda complained but it was more fun watching the giraffes eat the grass off the truck!

I am currently at OKW. This morning I put my twin grandsons down for a nap and not ten minutes later someone was using a leaf blower around the first floor and parking area(we are on the 2nd fl).The person using the leaf blower then proceeded up stairs an use it right out side my villa. When you use a gas powered leaf blower under Windows or right out side a door it sounds as if they are in the room with you.Fortunately my grandsons are amazing and only fussed a little bit and then went to sleep.I understand that it is more efficient to"sweep" with a leaf blower however it is very obnoxious and not something I would expect from a "deluxe". I don't want or expect anything, let me repeat that I DO NOT WANT OR EXPECT ANYTHING. I am hoping that if I bring it to the right people/persons attention maybe they could do things differently. I know electric blowers are not as efficient as gas but they are much quieter. So after possibly a too lengthy explination my question is what is the best way to address this situation, talk to the front desk? Write a letter/email.....both?

Landscaping has to be done, and work hours are from 9 am to 5 pm. This is something you are just going to have to deal with. I can't imagine it taking that long either. Complaining to the front desk is just going to get you a quick sorry for the inconvenience. They don't landscape daily (in the same section) so most likely you won't have to deal with it again during your stay.

So, assign a few to complete a task in 6 seconds, little effort, excellent and consistent results due to machinery, multitude of tasks can be completed in a shift...
Or...
Have many (as it will be necessary to get the job done for appearance sake) assigned to a task, takes much longer to complete, requires constant physical effort to maintain productivity, results depend on workers effort and vary from person to person based on individual's idea of 'clean', far less completed in a shift.
Brooms sound like an excellent idea! Cost-saving, too!

I'm not sure why everyone is getting on the OP's question but I do agree with most here that there probably isn't something that can be done about it. My best suggestion would be to talk to someone at the front desk and ask if there is a set time that landscaping is done at your building so that way you could adjust nap time, if possible.

Nap on a park bench if bob isn't out getting rid of them 1 by 1 you probably would have complaned about that too. ;)

About the only thing that could ever be done in a situation like this is to have your room moved, but the odds are it'd be about as noisy unless you move up.

Surprised to hear it's so noisy at OKW. We have 3-year old twins and have always commented that during nap time, while it might be noisy for us on the balcony, inside the room where the boys sleep, it has always been quiet. Even at WL with the construction last month.

Um, the point of this posting is? I hear your comments about leaf blower vs. sweeping, gas vs. electric blowers, etc., but Disney should reasonably be expected to be able to perform routine property maintence during daylight hours. If you said that this was 6am, then I'd be standing at the front desk right beside you with a bullhorn!

Actually, I commend this poster. Uncle had a question about whether he should complain or not, went to a place with other Disney-informed, and posited his question. Points and arguments were laid out, and Uncle ultimately decided he may not agree with the activity, but no complaint would be made. I wish more people would examine their potential complaints on this level; frustration (right or wrong) happens to everyone, examining the frustration for a proper response is commendable.

Thank you! Yes I am just old school and In the past using a broom was the way to clean entry ways and stairs.Heck this was a vacation club place if I thought the stairs and front area of my door were messy I would have swept it my self. I understand that it is a cost and efficiency thing. People who like Disney(although it does seem like there are a lot of people on here that don't )seem to be creative and with a Disney spirit might have creative solutions for cleaning directly outside a room with less noise. It seems that the bottom line is the bottom line, maybe I am being nit picky, just seems like something Disney use to care about.

It's unlikely there is a set time for landscaping, but probably a set day of the week. The crew starts in the morning and moves on with their tasks. If one takes longer for some reason or shorter, the time at which they start the leaf blowing could change.

In the OPs defense, gas blowers are incredibly noisy. I was in charge of running our VPs quarterly meetings. She requested we use this one conference space with large windows that overlooked one of the ponds on the campus. Ok, so the view is nice and everything is going well, when suddenly 3 landscapers with gas blowers show up outside and literally drown out the presenter. From that day on, I always checked with the Facilities people about landscape work when we used that room.
