No wand in new DVD.

This has probably been discussed before and I just missed it, but I just got the new Vacation Planning Kit, and in every single picture or video of Epcot that shows SE, the wand is not there.
As you can tell from my avatar, I am one of the few who really like it. I was amazed with it when it first appeared during the millenium celebration, and liked it when they changed it from 2000 to Epcot. Still do. I have been going to WDW and Epcot since the early 80's and have seen SE without the wand more times than with it, and either way is alright with me.

I was wondering if showing SE without the wand is a sign of things to come. I realize that they use older footage in some of the promotional material, as they have obviously done here, but it seems curious to me that they chose to not show SE in its current state.

Anyone else notice this on the new DVD? A lot of people will be happy to see the wand come down. If it does come down, thats OK by me, as SE has always been and hopefully always be the main focal point of Epcot, wand or not. Do you think Disney is getting tired of it and are starting to listen to those who want it removed? Or, just old footage put in the new video and I am making something out of nothing.

I also noticed on the Finding Nemo edition of Mike's Super Short Show segment on the Disney Channel, they show the 2 kids outside of the Living Seas with SSE in the background. There is no sign of any part of the structure (stars, "Epcot," wand, hand, etc). Can you just not see it from that angle or....?

Could it be that they used old footage? Why? I am sure they have tons of footage from Millennium Celebration, but then it said "2000".... maybe they didn´t want to spend on filming it with "Epcot"? It´s hard to believe they wouldn´t have old footage of that though... :veryconfu

I saw that too. I think it's just the angle.

I hope it is a sign of things to come. I mean, since it's a new DVD, and there would seem to be several different shots of SSE, why would they leave it out?

This is just the angle on the Finding Nemo commercial. If you look close, it is there. Its on the opposite side of the ball.

As for the new maps, yep, the wand seems to be gone from everything. The actual video on the DVD probably uses old shots, but the paper maps they give, the "virtual" map on the DVD, information in AAA booklets, etc. all show Epcot without the wand. Last year's maps and AAA booklets, etc. had the wand in it. May or may not be a sign of anything, but it does seem odd that it was on everything last year but now not on anything this year.

Epcotisbest, you are not alone. I too am one of the few who has always liked the wand. From the 2000 to the Epcot. Its somewhat magical and looks great on TV when they are doing specials from Epcot. I can see though where people may think it detracts from SE, afterall, I too am always drawn to the wand and not the ball. If they take it down, I won't be upset, but I never thought it looked bad to begin with. Oh well, now if they could do something about the hat at MGM I would be happier :lol:

God I hope this is true. The wand is tacky and totally detracts from Epcot's atmosphere.

Yep, I noticed it too.

When the wand first appeared in 2000 (or 1999:hammer: ) I thought it was the coolest thing to really celebrate the millenium and show just how big it was. But now that its over, I think it looks tacky with the "Epcot" logo (as if we didn't know it was Epcot.) I don't hate it with the passion that some do, but I think its time to take down the wand as it does distract from the beautiful architecture of SE itself.

In short, it was nice while it lasted, but its overstayed its welcome and its time to turn it back to the original SE.

I'm not saying that I don't like the wand, but I thought SSE was better without it. Before the wand, SSE was the tallest thing in Epcot. Now the wand is the tallest thing, and it even broke the 200 foot limit which means it needs to have a blinking light.

I just feel that the arm takes away from SSE. In a visual sense, the wand is crowding in on SSE's spotlight. I enjoyed seeing SSE at night, big and unobstructed, with the continents being displayed on the side. The wand makes SSE seem smaller.

So if the wand must stay, so be it. But I don't want it to stay forever, just until it's been paid for is fine.

Mine seemed to take a lot longer to arrive this time.
In fact, I had forgotten all about it until I returned home Monday and it was waiting for me in the mail!
I think I ordered it in early September - almost 10-12 weeks ago!

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

a bit off topic but not by much...on the dvd, when they are explaining how to use fastpass, did anyone else notice at the mission space fp kiosk that when the cm puts the ticket in, a "Not a Valid FastPass" comes out?? when i saw that, i was cracking up!:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thanks everyone for participating in this thread. I just got the Walt Disney Travel Company 2004 big brochure and the map in it also shows SE without the wand. I pulled out last year's and there it is, now its not. I think this may be a hint of things to come.

Yeah, WDW*babe the wait for the new DVD seems to take forever, but I got mine in around 8 or 9 weeks. Just give it a little longer then one day you'll open your mailbox and there it is. It is sorta like counting down the days till your next WDW trip. Seems like it will never get here but eventually it does.
