No Other Way To Get Extra Magic Hours Then WDW Hotel?

I'm just a little confused here. You are not in a Disney Hotel, but, your balcony has a view of WDW. What part of WDW? A mile from DTD in any direction other then East, would be on property. If you are East of DTD, there is very little to see of Disney. I stayed in a hotel off International Drive where from the 8th floor you could see, way in the distance, a shadow of the Contemporary and that was about it. At night you could see the fireworks, but it was hardly a good show from that distance. So I am wondering just where you are going to be that is going to get what you describe.

If you are going in December did you check out tickets for the Mickey Christmas party? This will let you stay in MK later than other guest.

Over 60 bucks extra to watch a parade?

Sorry, I'm trying to understand why it's so expensive.... I'd be able to go December 13 or 14 it seems, but the official website is pretty bland at what exactly it is.

Anyone else have an experience?

It's more than a parade. It snows on Main Street. You get free delicious hot chocolate and cookies. They have characters out for meet and greets that aren't there any other time of year. The parade is special and so is the atmosphere. I wouldn't pay to do it every year, but ever other year is good with us.

While we have been staying on property since 1997, I am wondering, if you stayed off property and parked at DTD, couldn't you just ride the bus over to one of the parks (and get away with free parking?);) Not that I would do that, because my family is spoiled now with staying on property, but just wondering.

Or at least on this special trip ... getting engaged during the parade with the snow falling. It is really cool.

I could be wrong but I don't think the buses go from DTD to a park only to a resort.

You can ride the bus to the Contemporary and walk to MK. You could also ride the bus to the Boardwalk area and ride the boat over to Epcot etc.

Well that blows...I guess I have to decide whether or not all the extra money for a lower end WDW hotel is worth the extra hours....

I wouldn't change hotels just for the EMH... In some cases we never used them because we had planned our trip around going to certain parks because of dining reservations and then realized that we perfectly planned our trip to hit parks on days the EMH was at a different park.... They really don't do you that much good, unless you need a reason to get up early.

Unlike EMH nights the park is actively cleared of people without party tickets so once the park closes at 7pm most attractions become a walk on. Also, guests with only a ticket for the Christmas party may enter as early as 4pm.

Compared to the cost of a one-day ticket that's $35 less and you can accomplish everything you normally could and get the party "extras."

For me the party makes a lot of sense for someone coming for a short trip, especially if staying off property. Either schedule something else for the first half of the day or go to the party on arrival day.

Hmm I thought I read that you need a part ticket AND a christmas ticket to go to this thing. So why wouldn't they be allowed to be in the park before 4pm if they had a park ticket?

Also....all the rides stay open during this "party"? The general public has to leave and only those with the christmas ticket can ride the rides?

Thanks for all this help, this is great!

You only need a party ticket to attend the party. You do NOT need separate admission (i.e. a regular ticket) in addition to your party ticket. Although the party technically begins at 7:00, they have been letting people in with just a party ticket as early as 4:00.

No, all the rides don't stay open. Lines for open rides are pretty short because people who go to the party don't ride rides very much. They're doing party stuff. :)

The staff is exceedingly diligent about throwing out people who didn't buy tickets once it is 7:00. If you're in the park after 7:00, you will need a party wristband to get on rides or walk about the park.

OK, here's another option for you to look into - renting DVC points. You can get a pretty good deal at times (but maybe not when you want to go), and you get the onsite perks too.

Today in the mail I received a Disney PIN code for free dining. Must book by 08-14-2013. Dates valid for travel:
08/25/2013 through 10/02/23013, 10/18/2013 through 10/31/2013, 11/11/2013 through 11/23/2013, 11/30/2013 through 12/04/2013 and 12/15/2013 through 12/22/2013.
If you have been a previous Disney guest you should expect on of these. Ifnot, it never hurts to ask if you qualify for the discount. The cost alone of the DDP may make it worth your while to stay onsite. Of course, this requires a five-night stay, and I am not sure how long you had planned on being there.
